Показать описание
Feeding Ringneck parrot babies is both fun and challenging. Baby parrots are extremely sensitive and even a minor mistake can cause trouble. Before you feed your baby parrot for the first time, make sure that you follow all instructions explained in this video.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. How much should I feed my parrot baby?
The quantity of feed depends on the baby parrot's age and size.
7-10 days: 5ml 5-6 times a day.
11-20 days: 10ml 3-4 times a day.
21-30 days: 15-20ml 3 times a day.
31-40 days: 15ml 3 times a day.
41-50 days: 15ml 2 times a day.
50-60 days: 15ml 1 time a day.
2. What baby parrots eat?
Baby parrots can eat a variety of food. Baby parrots younger than 40 days old should be fed easily digestible hand-feeding formula (chickpea flour + water). But baby parrots aged 40 days or more can start eating fruits along with their hand-feeding formula.
As the baby parrots grow beyond 60 days of age, they start eating soft seeds like sunflower seeds.
Things baby parrots can eat
- Bananas
- Mangoes
- Apples
- Watermelon
- Tomatoes
- Chillies
- Softened chickpea
- Wet bread
Things that should NOT be fed to baby parrots
- Milk
- Rice
- Hard seeds
- Hot and cold things
- Other things that are difficult to digest
3. Baby parrot not starting self-eating, what should I do?
Baby parrots start self-eating at the age of 35-40 days and become completely independent at the age of 60-75 days. If your parrot is 60+ days old and still doesn't self-eat at all, it may be because you never keep your baby parrot hungry.
Parrots do not learn self-eating as long as they are not kept hungry. This is why I recommend reducing parrot diet with time. It is also possible that you have recently started keeping water and feed bowl in your baby parrot's cage, it is still not familiar with feed and water.
4. What should be the ratio of water and chickpea flour in baby parrot hand-feeding formula?
Baby parrots must be fed a thin diet, with 1/4 flour and 1/4 water quantity. But a growing baby parrot aged (15 days or more) must be fed a thick diet, consisting of 2/4 flour and 2/4 water.
5. My baby parrot is vomiting/throwing all the feed, what should I do?
Baby parrots usually vomit when they are sick or the food is indigestible. Make sure...
- Your baby parrot is warm. If not, keep it in a warm place. Do not feed it for 3-4 hours. Wait until its stomach empties. Once its stomach empties, feed it only 25% quantity of diet that you feed regularly.
- Make sure the parrot diet is not too thin, hot, or cold.
- Make sure you are not feeding it more than it can consume.
- If the baby parrot does not stop vomiting, immediately take it to a veterinary doctor.
6. Can we feed packed hand-feeding formulas to baby parrots? Is it healthy?
There is no harm in feeding packed baby parrot feed but it is not as healthy as people commonly think. Instead of using packed parrot feed, use a homemade hand-feeding formula like shown in this video.
