columns in a building usually have a rectangular cross section. To ensure effective load transfer, the columns need to be wider than the beams they support. However, some situations demand a greater cross section of the column to obtain a desired load carrying capacity and since the width of the column is restricted, it becomes difficult to achieve the required cross section.

In such cases, the required cross section can be achieved by increasing the depth of the column.
This may create problems when orienting the columns and to avoid this, I have discussed various points in this video which shall be noted.

I didn't get it, when u mentioned the column that have beams lie in the opposite direction, it means their momen canceled out, thus the momen's resisting by the column is just substraction from the spans.

I thought the moment in the support of the beams is even greater. May u explain Sir the concept behind it? It will help me a lot

Hi sir...
One dought. One of slab he gave conceld beam 12mm 4 bar. But he casted drop beam with out Reinforcement. But on that beam wall not come only live load will come.Slab spacing 8in c/c both side he have column. Is it take load. Or fail. Please help me.
