It's crazy how BookTok/Tube community will revitalize some old classics. Lonsome Dove, Shogun, etc...think its awesome. In a world where we are constantly inundated with brand new content and a race to keep up with what is trending...always nice to see bookish folks reach back and pull out some iconic works that are still timeless.

I’m 150 pages into Dungeon Crawler Carl and I’m loving it, haven’t read a book like this before.

Two nonfiction books that pair very well with Lonesome Dove:
1) Doug J. Swanson : Cult of Glory: The Bold and Brutal History of the Texas Rangers
2) S. C. Gwynne : Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History
Some flaws in both, particularly towards the end but nevertheless intense and fascinating reads. Definitely up your alley.

Haven’t read a book for fun in three years, before that I hadn’t in 10, but I’m trying to get into it and it’s going well so far! Already did a book in Jan.
I don’t remember if it was a vid of yours but I just bought The Wager and I’m extremely excited once I finish the thriller I’m getting through now!

I was really stuck in a hard mental place this afternoon, really struggling to feel normal. Thank you Kist for your content that gave me the distraction that my mind needed to calm itself down. You rock dude🫵🏻👊🏼🖤

I'm a relatively new subscriber so I've never heard you mention James A Michener. Possibly you've already covered him in past videos, but I absolutely wallow in his books, like Chesapeake. He starts almost at the beginning of the universe😊😊, then takes you into a story that's what I call "unputdownable". This month I'm reading, at your recommendation, The Coming of the Third Reich. I read a lot of books about Hitler and the Third Reich years ago, including a two-volume biography and Albert Speer's book, but haven't read anything about him/Nazis in years. Just in case you're looking for a good science read, Brian Greene's Until The End of Time is one of the best I've read in a while.

If you enjoy The Delusion of Crowds, absolutely check out some books which dive into the psychology/sociology of power and control. E.g., The Ruling Class by Mosca, The Populist Delusion by Parvini, Propaganda by Bernays, The Birth of Modern Belief by Shagan, The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind by Le Bon, Democracy: The God That Failed by Hoppe, ON POWER by de Jouvenel, etc.

The Robert Harris trilogy about Cicero is amazing. I read it 10 years ago.

I love the variety of this book haul. As I'm sure you can tell by my user name, I read books of all genres so it's great to see other people do the same. I loved Dungeon Crawler Carl but still need to continue on with the series - finishing series is something I struggle with so it's a focus of mine this year to work on completing some. Story Genius is a great book, I read it a couple years ago. I read Lonesome Dove a year or two ago and feel bad that I didn't enjoy it - I remember watching the miniseries when I was younger and loved it but the book I struggled with. I recently picked up S.P.Q.R. and cannot wait to read it.

This is the kind of haul I would have! I either own so many of these books or have them on my wishlist. Love it! Emily Wilson's translations are so wonderful and I think you'll enjoy it! I wanted ot say that I bumped up Gael Song because of you AND I AM SO GLAD I DID. I am In LOVE and I'm only halfway through the first book. And one last thing - a wife that goes through your comments to buy you books? YOU HAVE WON AT LIFE. (And she's reading this PLEASE grab him a copy of Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It's an absolute CLASSIC and what I consider the OG Arthurian retelling through the women in the story.) Great post! Looking forward to updates and reviews!
