Thanks for the operational review. I have been wondering about this thing myself. Can't decide which brand I want to get. FYI, that spot on the motor that you pointed at where you wanted to keep the water from going into isn't an inlet. That is the fan shroud and actually an outlet for air to pass over and keep the motor cool. It's a good idea to keep feathers and water from going there. Great job!

Have you used this since? A lot of the online complaints are not on the first use, but after it sat for a year with water in the motor or electronics.

They sell paint pour edges for 5 gal buckets it will clip on edge - also a dust pan edge for clean up with pales same idea — on edge of pale to be like a backsplash bridging th gap where you have the plastic bag

Piece of junk. Motor quit after 2 years maybe 200 birds. Repair shop said it was unrepairable due to aluminium windings in the motor.
