Is it finally worth being an iPad artist?

This isn’t a hardware review channel, but the perspective I can offer is that of an artist who has been using the iPad Pro for 10 years now for my professional illustration work.
With the announcement of new M4 iPad Pros fresh in mind, I want to both look at what seems to be new with the latest models and how that affects you- while also looking at the state of viability for the iPad as of 2024, if you want to be making stuff on it. 2D, 3D, and animation.

Yeah I agree I would much rather have a thicker iPad with larger battery and storage

You were the one who caused me to switch to the iPad all the way back in 2018, which really saved my butt during the when our art school labs got shut down, so thanks for that.

Finding your channel has brightened my day. I’m so tired of listening to talking heads who don’t have the experience that you do as an artist, and tend to spend way more time on the technology and the company that made it. Also, props to your Lavalier microphone taped to, an Apple Pencil.

Loving Procreate and Dreams on my M2 IPad Pro! When I started doing TV animation in the 90s, this was truly beyond my imagination!

I’m still rocking a 2018 iPad Pro. It replaced my macbook & is the best digital sketchbook there is. I do all my content creation & media consumption on it. Having said that, I may be tempted to finally upgrade for the OLED screen & Apple pencil Pro… but it’s a testament to the longevity of the iPad that if I didn’t, I could still do everything I need on my 6 year old iPad Pro.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, the reason the pro pencil doesn't work on the previous M2 models, is the new landscape camera location. The internal edge magnets on the M2 are different than the new models just revealed.

I’ve had Paperlike on my 2020 Ipad pro for about 4 years now and it has only recently started showing any wear. 10/10 would recommend :3

Technical note! Apparently the nano texture screen is a $100 option, BUT it's only available on the 1TB+ options of iPad Pro- thus the price jump from the base model that I mentioned in the video of $800.

iPad for art as in photography is more fun than clicking and sitting at a computer so that’s why I use it over my Mac majority of the time.

I've never enjoyed buying apple products, but its hard to watch so many people effectively using an iPad for all of their digital art and not be enticed. I had a surface pro at one point, but the pen for it has been lost for years.

I am currently using Ipad Air 2019, and layer limit and sometimes performance are getting quite annoying. My birthday is 2 days before the release on 15th, so I think this is a good time for an update.

Please. Do not buy that nano textured glass model. Buy a matte screen protector instead. If that screen gets scratched there is nothing you can do about it. A screen protector gives you the same result and protects the screen underneath. It’s just throwing 100 dollars into the fire

There's an actor who was a lecturer in saved by the bell college years, and was also in an episode of the short-lived series two of a kind on nickelodeon.

You are an absolute ringer for that guy

Really surprised that the new iPad Air can use the new Pencil Pro – kinda thought they would lock that into the more expensive one.

Where exactly did you get the info that the 2nd gen Apple pencil is working with the M4? I found some info saying the opposite:

The second generation Apple Pencil is not compatible with the just-announced new iPad Pro M4 models.
The front camera and FaceID sensor array have been relocated from the short-edge to the long-edge of the iPad - such that the camera and sensor array are now positioned top-centre of the screen when the iPad is positioned in Landscape orientation. As such, the camera/sensor array now occupy the internal cavity previously used for the second generation Pencil's inductive pairing/charging system.
To accommodate this change, the charging system for the Apple Pencil has been completely redesigned - moving the associated electronics to different cavity locations along the top edge of the iPad chassis. The new Apple Pencil Pro has been specifically designed to accommodate the new physical architecture.
As such, the second generation Pencil is incompatible with the new iPad's Pro. Similarly, the new Apple Pencil Pro is also incompatible with earlier models of iPad Pro.

Unless it's only info about charging the pencil

00:16 i don’t mean this rudely, but more like 8.5 years. The first gen iPad Pro came out Nov 2015. That’s what I still have, and I’m finally upgrading to the new one.
