Why are people upset with the new Hot Topic Hazbin Hotel merch?

Recently there’s been a bit of discourse surrounding the new hazbin hotel hot topic merch. Let me explain.

So recently images have been popping up online showcasing the new hazbin hotel merch collab with hot topic. In the store windows there’s also some promotional images showcasing charlie.

Some people were upset about this, with complaints being made that Hot topic has abandoned it’s target audience, people saying they’ll refuse to shop there now and all the other usual complaints about how terrible the show is.

Personally i think this is really silly. A similar thing happened the other month with the digital circus where it got it’s own merch in hot topic, and people proceeded to complain that the show sold out.

It’s impossible for animated shows to branch out otherwise they get labelled as selling their soul for money. It’s even weirder because hot topic has always been associated with quirky media like invader zim and nightmare before christmas, so hazbin hotel would fit right in alongside the digital circus.

I saw the sign in my local mall and my first thought was that it was pretty cool that hazbin was branching out. It's also pretty cool that you can get official merch in real stores now and not just online :D

I just saw the Hazbin Hotel merch yesterday at a Hot Topic in Capitola. The window display was bigger than their actual shelf space. They only had 3 t-shirt styles.

I don’t get it. I never find everyone who shops at Hot Topic this upset with South Park & Bob’s Burgers. The store is called “Hot Topic”, it means it’s trying to sell what’s trending & Hazbin Hotel is one of the greatest, wonderfully animated musicals.
