What EXACTLY is the Ego?!

Shortly after we made the Parable of the Ego, a huge wave of comments came flooding in about what exactly the Ego was and why it existed at all... Naturally, we had to make a video on this subject.

Like materialism, the Ego is often denied or even tried to kill in an Ego Death in many spiritual systems... but what actually is it? Why do we have it in the first place, and is it all that bad after all?

True. The ego isn’t bad, it’s just a part of you that thinks it’s you- that does the thinking and calculating. Getting rid of it isn’t really doable, but it’s healthy to separate identity from it and help it evolve. I like this interpretation and analogy with the iceberg.

The ego is personal self versus our collective self. The ego will die on its own like a forgotten dream when we die. No need to rush it. Perhaps ghost are people who decide to hold on to the ego after death

Your ego is to help you make change and move forward in your life. It is more prevalent when we are younger because we need to drive our live in the right direction. It is a great tool. As we age, like the old bald guy professor, our egos tend to start to diminish as we see that we don't actually need it. In todays world many people do not like coming out of their comfort zone and therefore their ego will kick in and make a million and one excuses to get out of the situation. The ego is important as it helps you move into places you may not have done without it. It is also important to know that you should not use it on any other human. Thanks for sharing. :)
