Proof that “rare” doesn’t always equal valuable

There will actually be a thin piece of wood in that joint exactly the width of the blades "kerf" to put all the specs back to origginal. I have a friend who used to dumpster dive for these and resell them.

Gibson made 1500 less Paul specials between 1958 and 196o.
There are only 15000 left.

The guitar wanted to live, and pulled through, despite Norlin's attempted murder! Awesome!

My Dad used to work at Gibson Factory in Nashville Tennessee, he told me about how he used to take the ones they cut in half and throw away out of the trash and fixed it up all nice, so that could potentially be one of his since he used to sell them as well.

I’m the guy that fished those out the dumpsters. How funny. And there were hundreds of them btw, not just a couple. I have pics to prove it in case you’d like to see em.

One man’s trash is sometimes another man’s treasure. Wish Gibson actually thought about that back when they decided to drive a bulldozer over a bunch of their Firebird X guitars.

That finish is awesome. Woud live a guitar with that on it. Outside the context of a classic american electric, It has a decaying, industrial look to it.

Anybody else would call that a Chibson. The fact that you know the history behind it is awesome

Gibson Nashville had loads of dumpster chop-ups get snagged. They were very common on ebay around 20 years ago.

Gluing the body together on the end grain of both halves would prevent good glue adhesion. To give structural integrity to the body it would have to be drilled and doweled or joined with a similar method.

Absolutely a super cool looking LP. Worn naturally and it has a bigsby. One of my top 5 all time favorite electrics is a gold top with a bigsby. I watched this short 10 times in a row. Can’t look away from the beautiful piece of Americana.

The Bigsby whammy bar is the best part

I've heard stories from Kalamazoo about this topic ... dumpster diving was considered a criminal offense, not just termination

"The rarest LP", too big of a statement for this piece

This is apparently how the BFG & super low cost Gibson’s come about, according to a friend who has worked at Gibson for 35 years. He said they were B stock bodies that they would glue together with other B stock bodies & other things to make working guitars out of their trash & charging almost $1000 for what was thrown in the dumpster a month earlier.

Dave is a walking knowledge dispenser. And a helluva musician in his own right.

Awesome. And the best part is that you didn't do the loop thing at the end of the video. You scared me there for a sec when you paused on "making this..." haha
