It’s the same thing with the large and long sleeves and coats in ancient China. Basically, the richer you were, the more impractical you would dress. Back then, wearing short sleeves was sometimes seen as being uneducated, and was often associated to the working class.

Fun fact, the traditional Korean male attire is based off of the Ming dynasty Chinese male attire. However, because Korea was a subject of China, Korean men had to wear shorter coats (usually won’t cover their ankle) than Chinese men (whose coats can almost touch the ground), to show their respect to the Chinese emperor.

No idea the exact time or place(i know im giving a broad thing for both) but in medieval days peasants would give themselves longer hoods and pointy shows to show off they have enough money to waste on extra fabrics.

Life isn't all about money, but you need money to survive. Everyone just has to figure out how they are gonna make money. I'm in the same boat. Was in a violent home situation and wasn't able to work or go to school or even get on disability. So now, in my mid thirties I'm planning on going back to college, so I can get out of doing blue collar work. It's horrible, but unfortunately, it's the situation I grew up in. I didn't have anyone helping me.
