This was incredibly well done! The raw emotion, struggle, and eventually; control exhibited by Gohan in this scene was everything I love about the old transformations.

It felt like there was a tangible ceiling the characters were trying to break through, and they could usually only do it in moments of extreme emotional/physical stress (at least in the case of the Saiyans). They sort of achieved this with Ultimate Instinct but after SSJ God and SSJ Blue, it felt like they were just power scaling for the sake of Goku having a way to beat a new tough enemy.

One of my all-time favourite transformations was Future Trunks in the History of Trunks film after Gohan knocks him out to protect him, then he finds Gohan dead after fighting the Androids. I don't think anything has come close to matching that bloody rage and sorrow. Some of the best work the English voice actor ever produced as well. Tears streaming down his face, rupturing the ground beneath him with his balled up fists... Jesus Fucking Hell - where is THAT in Dragon Ball anymore?
