When I worked at Canadian Tire they did the same thing with the "discounts". Something might read "8.99 down from 34.99", but guess what? It was never 34.99, they just say that to create an illusion of discount. The price was really 8.99 the whole time.

The problem lies in the culture of consumerism and people addicted to buying junk they don't need instead of just purchasing a few quality items. Any company that produces/sells cheapies don't follow regulations in one way or another to reduce costs, this is their business model all around the world. If they would function ethically, prices will rise. And people always looking for bargain, even if they don't need the item.

LOW QUALITY PRODUCTS LIKE ADIDAS MADE IN VIETNAM, NIKE IN MYANMAR ETC ARE REASON OF "LOW" PRICES, ANOTHER TRICK IS TO ACTUALLY RISE THE PRICE AND THAN LOWER IT BY SOME PERCENTAGE THERE IS A TON OF REASONS WHY, AND THE BRAND NAME PLAY CRUCIAL NAME TOO WHO IS GONA PAY A HEFTY PRICE FOR SLAZENGER OR LONSDALE, IT NOT LIKE THE ARE NAUTICA MILITARE OR ANYTHING

"THIS VIDEO IS NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY" What a waste of time, anybody with the slightest computer knowledge knows how to bypass that.

The journalist is doing exactly what he accuses Ashley of: not being entirely clear . Two out of many examples: 'only 300 actually work for sports direct, the rest are on 0 hours contracts'  and 'that is breaking government guidelines'. Both statements are equivocal and emotive. For the first, tell us how many people are on 0 hours and compare this to national norms for the same type of work. Breaking government guidelines leave it to the listener to decide if that is a crime or not. Don't get me wrong, the work conditions seem poor but is Sports Direct the only employer to do this?

Zero hours contracts should be banned, how on earth can someone budget for rent, bills and food if they haven't a clue how much they are going to earn? What a miserable existence.

I think their working conditions at the warehouse are quite lax, actually. Six strikes, of things you should have the common sense NOT to do more than ONCE? GTFOH! In the U.S. nobody in this line of work has a contract. You may sign onto a full-time position of 40 hours a week, and chances are you'll work them. Maybe even more than 40. But there's nothing contractually obligating the employer to use you for 40 hours. There are such things as overtime (MORE hours than 40), and then there are times when you get sent home early (LESS HOURS than 40) on slower days. First, by asking for volunteers (the younger ones with no bills to pay will ALWAYS opt to take off work early). But if that fails, then it's done by random selection. Also, the "strikes" count is THREE per YEAR. But, just as it is at Sports Direct, it's stuff that no one with normal work ethic would ever need to worry about breaching. It's meant to weed out the people taking the piss, and not serious about working. You don't run a company that successful and size with NO standards. Optimization of time is key. The scheme works, and a company THAT large usually has many applicants waiting to work. Why on earth would the company settle for half-ass producers, when good ones are waiting outside to do the job right? This is a non-issue all around. Too much coddling as it is. CHATTING at work? Why? That's what lunch breaks and regular breaks are for. Stopping to piss about just makes the time go slower. Busy is better, because the time flies. Nan Taylor's right "They don't want to work. See?"

What a silly patronising move by the presenter donning that ill fitting hat as he went 'undercover' inside a Sports Direct store along a busy high street. No one would recognise him or give a hoot about him without the hat.
