“That’s a really fun CEDH deck! You should build it!”

$1200 later…for the lands

There's a guy that goes to my LGS who has a Vintage Cube you have to sign a release for him to play. The thing is worth like half a million, it's insane.

"your proxies look so real" That's because I'm in crippling debt since buying them.

Just ran into my first stupidly rich person last Friday. Man came to the shop to offload some stuff, he was going on for a while about how he can't play anymore and wanted to trade in for Pokemon for his grandkids. Guy spent 2k buying all the product on the shelf and even gave me an actual alpha elf as a tip. Even after i told him we couldn't take his binder because of the cost ( dudes binder had at least 30k worth of cards)

Edit: the guy came back yesterday while i was on break. Guy had a commander deck but didn't really know everything. So i play a game with him and use a shop precon because he said he made the deck after his last visit. it's turn 2 and man has a savanna, i think og cradle and, a crypt with two dorks IN PENNY SLEEVES!

My printer has saved me thousands of dollars this last year.

Ngl ran into someone who proxied 100% of the non basics in his deck tonight while running pretty much every insane busted card I could think of for the deck without telling the table of strangers he was playing with that he was running proxies until after we started. Then proceeded to be confused when we were a bit miffed we all died on turn 3

I rolled up to the pod with my mana crypt from Ixalan, and they went "we said no proxies"

I personally prefer to actually own the cards in my Commander decks. However, I'm not made of money so I can't really get everything I want for all my decks. I would rather play with what I have until I can afford to get certain cards I'm looking for to complete my decks the way I want them. I don't really like super high power competitive games anyway. I usually play Commander around power level 7 or 8. So, I like powerful games of Commander. Just not CEDH.

i actually just handprint them on similar linen cardstock and mine feel pretty real

it’s a little more expensive but obviously better than thousands of dollars for a casual format

I made some proxies when my internet went out all weekend, white paper with pencil traced copies. I ended up trading them for real cards people liked how they looked so much.

With the quality of real mtg cards, I do have to say some proxies are higher quality.

The amount of money that’s just casually on the table at any CEDH tourney… 🤯

Me cracking a polluted delta for an underground sea in a casual game of commander:

Meanwhile, I actually make nice proxies. But only for myself now 😂 so this got a big laugh from me.

correct photo paper and a good inkjet printer will get you high quality proxies. Built a commander deck for like .16ct per card and they look fantastic.

I’ve been keeping the secret Strat locked away for years but I’ve basically got everything I’ll ever want now so here it is.

Play in Proxy friendly CEDH tournaments and you’ll win duals, moxes, packs, and can use those to get the cards you need to cut out your proxies so you can also play in the non-proxy friendly events.
Focus on one deck and become an expert on every interaction it might have.
Eventually you’ll have all the fancy cardboard.

For the cheat code: Just get good fakes, put them sleeved in a nice binder, but play with obvious fakes.
Most people won’t ask questions, but if someone does, just show them pictures of your binder and tell them you just don’t feel comfortable playing/bringing your high value cards to card shops.

I mean, I proxy cards that I own at least a single copy of as my argument is, "I can sleeve a proxy and be ready to go or you can wait for me to pull out all the real cards I own scattered across all of my decks."

Never understood shelling out anymore then 100 dollars for cardboard when anyone I'm playing edh would let me proxy a deck. As long as the proxies are eligible i feel like we need to remove the barrier of entry into formats like cedh or vintage and legacy.

I have discovered that a commader i want to make will coast me over 400 dollars for only half the deck...
