cornbread is always a balance between sweet and savory, it really can’t be complete without at least a LITTLE sweetness

My family is definitely on the savory side but my mom puts a pinch of sugar in the batter when no one is looking and everyone likes her cornbread the best.

I’m from the south and sweet cornbread is for breakfast and savory is for dinner or lunch and you put it in some buttermilk it’s sooo good!

I hate to be that person but
I can’t believe I have this many likes I have never had this many before even on my vids

As a southerner, who the hell puts actual corn in their cornbread

Well, cornbread is sweet by nature because it’s made from corn which has a natural sweetness to it. So you can either add savory elements to it or enhance its sweetness. It’s all still one family.❤

I’m originally from East Tennessee and sweet corn bread is always the way to go! Most the time we would eat it with greens and pinto beans which have a dull or tarter taste! The sweet corn break always compliments that dish beautifully!

Pro tip for the next time you make cornbread, put your skillet in the oven with some butter while it's pre heating, then dust it with some Cornmeal and let it get toasty, then pour in your batter. You get a really nice crispy crust and a soft fluffy inside

It can be either, it depends on what you're eating it with or your personal taste, it tastes great as a pancake a little burned with like northern beans, greens, and country ham.

Obviously, you'd go savory. You can also use apple sauce to sweeten it.

Texas girlie here! I grew up eating my cornbread in chili and I can safely say: It’s good either way! Sweetness could be a contrast to savory adding to a more all-around flavor experience, but a savory cornbread will also work with other savory stuff to not contrast too much. Just eat what you like!!

The best cornbread makers don’t have time to write articles about it because their grandbabies are coming over for the summer

As a southerner, my memories of having cornbread in the south is that it CONSISTENTLY has more of a sweet bend than a savory one although it's a ratio typa thing between the two tastes. In the south, it's typically slightly sweet but also strong buttery vibes

Both! its definitely depends on the dish you plan on serving as your main.

عند العرب نعملها بدون ذرة ولانكثر من الدقيق ، لكن عند اخراجها من الفرن نضع عليها الشيرة الاصليه بالسكر والماء ، ( ونشربها مع القهوة المره و اسمها بسبوسه )

Both!
One of my favorite ways to have cornbread is to cut up bacon and cook it in a cast iron skillet then pour cornbread batter over it and bake.
Another way we like it is to add a little honey to the batter, put it in a little disposable metal loaf pan, and cook it on indirect heat on our charcoal grill. It comes out sweet and smoky.

I like it sweet since i like adding honey and I like the sweetness to contrast with something rich like chili. But savory with maybe butter also seems good either way. Also, spaghetti with condensed milk? I’m curious

i’m from Georgia and we make our cornbread cakey and sweet. i hate when people add corn kernels to cornbread though, it ruins the texture 🤢🤮.

I’ve had both and I think definitely both are GREAT! Although some may prefer one over the other, I think it’s really great to have these two different options so that depending on what kind of meal you want them with, they can compliment it just right!
