Lyrics:
I miss when I had superpowers
My imagination was my friend and it ran wild and free
I could waste a couple hours
Without a worry in the world staring at stars out on my trampoline, yeah

I miss when Andy McAuthur was the fastest kid there was
and kid there was ever gonna be
Ken Griffey Jr. was a giant before parents got divorced
and I learned that there was gravity

I miss my old heroes
I had to give them all away
I miss my old heroes yeah yeah
God I wish they could’ve stayed
Cause it turns out that the hardest part of growing up's not getting old
It's learning how the real world goes
I miss my old
I miss my old

I miss my Bible study leader
Had all the answers for living in the big bad world
Don’t know if he still talks to Jesus
But his wife's remarried now and I think he sells garage doors

I miss when I thought chasing dreams was
Holy magic behind curtains in a sacred place
Before it was managers and lawyers
Who colored up and cashed them out
For vacation homes in coastal states

I miss my old heroes
I had to give them all away
I miss my old heroes yeah yeah
God I wish they could’ve stayed
Cause it turns out that the hardest part of growing up’s not getting old
It's learning how the real world goes
I miss my old
I miss my old
I miss my old heroes

I miss my old heroes

I miss back when the world was small and we had all the answers
I miss how it was when we were young
I miss back before I understood all the ways that life would break your heart
Before I knew that's what they called growing up

I miss my old heroes
I had to give them all away
I miss my old heroes yeah yeah
God I wish they could’ve stayed
Cause it turns out that the hardest part of growing up’s not just getting old
It's learning how the real world goes
I miss my old
I miss my old
I miss my old heroes
I miss my old heroes

Does anyone else cry for no reason when they listen to Ben's songs? Or is it just me.

Almost 70 years old and just found Ben, and his musical style and lyric tempo. Lucky me, thanks Ben.

It’s incredible how this video is shot in one take, then slowmo and then getting back to tempo, that’s some artistry on its own.

I wish I had heard this when it came out. It reminds me so much of my son who I lost February 6th this year.

I just love Ben’s writing ability to make you look at the beauty of life but in the realist way. If that makes sense. Like a reminiscing nostalgia

Literally just said to my boys the other day "I miss when we used to sing that "old friends" song by that skinny dude on the piano"....

Universe - "I got you, check this new jam out by that same dude"...

Me - (wipes tear)... snnnfftttt... Thanks, fam...

@Ben, I'm no piss-ass guy. But when I listen to your music something in me just breaks down and I become extremely emotional. You are talking to my soul

What I find captivating about this song is the lyrics get more somber as it plays out; it’s well written. While listening, it’s hard not to reminisce about one’s own adolescence and transition to adulthood. All of our childhood heroes eventually fade away — lost to old age or the snares of the world. This song captures the reality we all experience in slowly losing our innocence. No one can escape it.

I'm 41 and this whole album just really hit hard as I came to the realization that I am getting older and life doesn't last forever.

I'm really digging the overall direction from Ben in this album. I've followed him from the Duke days...consistent, solid songwriting. It's been a joy

My mind literally can’t compute how they planned for the speed ramping in what appears to be a one take gimbal shot. Mad props to the whole production

Ben's songs and music are more than nostalgic, they're iconic in a way, God has blessed this man to be a blessing to the world 🌎💖. Listening to Ben's songs bring me happiness, it has a good old fashioned kind of feel good quality about it. Thank you my Heavenly Father for Ben's gift and music 🎵🎶🎹🌈. ✝️🕊️👼🏾🌎😎🕯️🎈🦋🇺🇸🦅☺️

I just turned 37 yesterday and this song resonates so much. I’m married to an amazing woman and have 3 wonderful kids, but the hardest part is feeling stagnant in life and facing the real world.

Wish I could be the Real Hero that my young kids see with their innocent eyes, but one day they’ll find out I’m just a flawed man, trying to give them a better life.
