Rex, from the bottom of my heart, please stop making videos. They make me want more tools I dont have the money for😅

My favourite tool for 70 years? A cabinet scraper, no question.
Would never be without one.
A bit sad that these days I have to use either a scraper plane, or a scraper in a holder - hands now too arthritic to bend it.
Second favourite - the burnisher I use to fettle it.

I was given an Old Timer pocket knife as a high school graduation present a long time ago. I was about the size of yours, but with a different blade style. I carried it for years, but somewhere it slipped out of may pocket. I still miss carrying that knife!

My Spyderco Sage 1 is always on me....well over a decade now. Still going strong.

I have had a Swiss army knife for a few years now and I have done most of my wood carving with nothing but that. It's incredible how useful those things can be. It'll probably outlive me and I'm not even old enough to drink.

I carry a victorinox farmer ALOX with me everywhere. It has a wood saw that perfect for quick pruning operations in the yard, but in a pinch works in the shop for quick and dirty cuts. The best part is that it also has an awl/reamer that is really quick to fold out (doesn’t use the typical fingernail nick in the blade) works great for opening packages, cutting other things that don’t need an extra sharp blade, reaming out holes with burrs, or making holes in wood!

Great video. I carry a Case 3 blade large stockman and a Case large hunter everywhere I go. An even better knife is a Queen 3 blade rail splitter if you can find one. My Schrade USA lock back is awesome as well. Use the DMT dual diamond stone (300 / 600 grit) and you can always keep it razor sharp.

Whereas I like my old timer because it's a fairly decent quality budget knife that was actually designed with people who actually use them for a wide variety of tasks in mind. That's depressingly rare with a lot of modern knife designs.

I still have mine from when I was a kid when they used to make them with carbon steel

That model of knife is what I use for marking, opening envelopes, and even eating in the field. With those three blades (clip, sheep's foot, and spey) the design is called a stockman. Most have two springs. I have developed a preference for the Buck make, which has an individual spring for each blade.

I did that last move when I was a kid and that was how I first ever closed the blade on myself

My dad (an "old timer" who would have turned 100 this year) also always carried a pocket knife just like that!

Hold your knife at the angle you hold it to sharpen and it’s a perfect marking knife.

I just told my wife yesterday, look if you don't know what to get me for a gift I can always use another knife. You break them and lose them enough, you can't really have too many on hand.

My grandpa has literally the exact same knife, bevel and all

I found one of those from sheffield. They call it the stockman. I use it as a pipe tool lmao.

Dear rex please be careful sticking a non locking folding knife like that into wood. When i was younger i did the same thing and the knife bent and closed on my hand. I seriously cut my fingers and needed to be rushed to the ER for stitches.
