The Atlanta Hawks Have Me Seriously Confused

The Atlanta Hawks have had a strange offseason... while they have been productive between picking Zacharrie Risacher with the No. 1 overall pick and dealing away Dejounte Murray, they still have not moved the needle. They are a team stuck between going into a full rebuild (which looks like the best option available) and still trying to contend. Regardless of what their plan is, they have not made significant strides in either direction this offseason.

We would have to win the lottery again next season to make a rebuild work. Even then, we still have a chance to be competitive as long as Trae is still on the team, especially now that Murray is gone. We had a losing record with both of them playing together. Now that the Hawks are finally starting to build around Trae the right way, I have optimism that Quin Snyder will get this team back to contention very quickly.

Looked at the roster and the lowkey good 💀. Trae is top 4 offensive player in the league and they surrounded him with long, athletic who can guard. I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if they were a top 5 seed. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if they in the play in.

I stop this video at 2:00. Murray was a hawk for less than 2 years. Rebuilding proves two things you haven't made the playoffs in 3 to 5 years and its zero signs of improving. The Hawks was Eastern conference finals in 2021 thats three years ago. Murray was to add defense not take the second most shots on the team on low percentages 2 seasons ago. The Hawks with him no playoffs and play in team.

Despite losing all the picks to the Spurs, I still think the Hawks will be in a better position to make the playoffs if they could avoid the Play-In. Are they Finals contenders? No. But do we believe they're better than the rest of the teams in the East? Actually. Sometimes, you just have some faith in what they are trying to do. I won't be surprised if they start the season hot and going on a crazy winning streak. Heck, they still can make some moves at the trade deadline. You may never know what happens next.

The Hawks are not rebuilding. They don't own their own picks for the next few years. Anyone who really watched the Hawks could see that Dejounte and Trae did not work together. They held on to better of the two players and have made moves to better build the roster around Trae. Hawks have only gotten better this off-season.
