I had a very big male named Masi, he was fantastic as a family dog and the kindest dog you can imagine, but he had a very protective instinct. He as you say didn’t bark often, but when he did it was among the loudest barks I’ve ever heard. Miss him❤️

This describes my male Berner exactly. He’s a sweetheart and very gentle, but alert around strangers until he gets to know them. He has taken it upon himself to sleep down in the front room to keep watch while we are sleeping. He is a light sleeper and alerts us to any concerns. He’s especially on alert if my husband comes home late from work. Our female, however, is not a watch dog, loves almost everyone she meets and will run back to the house when the other dogs start barking.

I have had many dogs, my first Bernese is 2 now. She is very protective against any dangers to my family. I trust her with my live. One thing is that if i play to hard with my children, she will force me away protecting them, not to hard but efficiently.
She's a loving, clumsy, guarding, protective, lapdog without fear.

I've owned a couple of Bernese mixes, a Berner Border collie mix who lived to almost 15. Presently I have a 5 month old 3/4 Berner 1/4 sheperd mix, I think he will be an excellent guard dog. Here's how I'm training him, I bought a manequin and afixed a life size cardboard cutout of Will to it. Then I affix ( crazy glue) a striploin steak to the manequWill's nether regions, the trigger word is Fenrir! As we do our training in the front yard, let me tell you this has sent a message throughout the town. Even at a deminuative 5 months and 60 lbs it is quite impressive. At his full weight, maybe 130 lbs I expect duct taping one of the plentiful road kill deer (Tweed, Ontario Canada) to the manequWill then releasing Enzo will produce a sight that I am sure cannot be unseen. Sometimes in crime prevention, a good offence, is a good defence and Enzo shall have every advantage I can provide him

Absolutely. Mine is. He is no second to Rottweilers, GSD, Dobermanns etc. And he is gentle with us.

This is literally the perfect companion. Do take note of the lifespan & climate requirements.

Our Bernese mountain dog was excellent in many areas but way to kind to be a good security dog.

I generally like your videos, but the amount of repetition in each movie and interrupting with commercials is SUPER ANNOYING.

I love my bms the most amazing dog to my son and nephews and very alert the only problem I have with him is that he tends to take his adventures

I love this dog and want to get one so much but I hesitate when I heard the Bernese is one of the shortest lived dog breeds, compared both to other breeds of a similar size. I heard the only live between 7-10 years and have a high cancer rate. Is this true or is it more rare nowadays?
