What worst thing that could happen to a civilization ? monetary loss- no,
people and knowledge loss -definitely yes.
Thousands of year ago when alexander the great who was considered the first foreign power who tried to invade india, came here.many greeks and middle asian, turks came after him but nobody was able to completely demolish india & culture but they successully destroyed thousand of temples (in ancient india temple were meant not only for worship but majorly a place to earn wisdom ) and book libraries in india, vandalized famous ancient indian universities like Taxila or taksh-shila (present day pakistan after partition) and Nalanda (present bihar state), these universities were having approx 10000 students from all over the world ( from india, china, balkans, greek, roman, egypt and mesoptamia ) and estimated to have thousands of thousand books on arts, litrature, science, life sciences, nature law, music, philosphy, calligraphy, politics. when invaders came and couldn't defeat india, they burned these universities and killed students & teachers or scared them off. even today the ruins of these temple of knowledge are depicting the glory of that era, when there was no chaos like today in the name of religion and money. similar did the nazi during 3rd reich in germany, they burned millions of precious books.
