Osborne met an old Lady struggling with two heavy shopping bags. You shouldn`t be doing that he said, I`ll help; and he halved her pension so she could only afford one bag.

We already know how it works, they give with one hand and take away twice as much with the other.
Taxing vehicles according to how much they pollute? Didn't they already do that?

"A budget for the worker" he says; "The best way out of poverty is work" he says; "A budget to incentivise people to work" he says; "We want people to keep as much of the money they earn as possible" he says.

Then he says, "Anyone in social housing and working and earning a salary of, (or for couples, a combined salary of), over £30k pa outside London, £40k pa in London - will have to pay around £4k pa more in rent".   That's if your earning £30k, £40k, or £50k - all will have to find an extra £4k a year.  If on £40 or £50k, that's probably done, but those on £30k or just over?   Well they may as well work part time or take lower paid jobs because keeping their income below £30k will actually leave them better off financially.   If they’re earning £29k and receive a pay rise of £1k, they then have to pay 4k more in rent.   Who in their right mind would accept that offer?   So in effect, he has trapped many people in social housing below a £30k earning ceiling.

So the best way out of poverty is work is it?   Doesn’t seem like it!
