JD Vance’s wife has defended comments Donald Trump’s running-mate made about “childless cat ladies”, insisting he was making a wider point about how much he values family life.

Usha Vance, a trial lawyer and mother of the couple’s three children, said she believed her husband “would never” intend to offend people who are struggling to have children while acknowledging that some choose not to start families for “very good” reasons.
