Sway bar links connect the sway bar (stabilizer bar) to other suspension components. They have a movable joint that can be damaged or wear out over time. When that happens, the joints get loose, and rattle. This video shows you how to install new TRQ sway bar links on your 2008-2012 Chevy Malibu.

This repair was done on a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu LT 2.4L Sedan 4-Door FWD and the process should be similar on the following vehicles:
2004 Chevrolet Malibu
2005 Chevrolet Malibu
2006 Chevrolet Malibu
2007 Chevrolet Malibu
2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Tools you will need:
• 19mm Socket
• Safety Glasses

The OE links are plastic and are different requiring a T40 torx bit socket

So the other side has to be loosened to take out the opposite?

I don't understand the "if you can do it" step, is setting the torque on the lower nut optional? What if it comes loose?

are the sway bar links right and left or are both the same?

You probably over torqued the lugs with the air gun. Setting the torque wrench to 100 ft lb won’t help if it’s already torqued to well over 100 ft lb
