This absolutely never works when you have actual rust on the threads. Your only option is heat it glowing red or just chop it off.

Use a pry bar to put strong pressure on the backside of the link. That works pretty well for me.

Vice grips on the back and sometimes you need to heat them up with a torch. Fun stuff especially the bottom nuts 😉

Thank you !! This saved me some headache .

Put the hex, turn wrench, bang hex and repeat. Don’t let that hex slip or you’ll ruin it. But easiest way is Judy to get the nut to give you just enough space for a cutting wheel to fit and just got that thing off and replace.

I love how everyvideo shows an impact like there aint a ton of mechanics busting knuckles 🤣

Always replace the links when replacing struts.

Use an impact on the tightening setting if you can't loosen it so the bolt snaps

I use a dremel and make diagonal relief cut on the nut, and it comes right off. That allen key never works in the rust belt.

A/T fluid and acetone 50/50 is so effective on rust/seized and nuts/bolts it will amaze you. SERIOUSLY!

If replacing just tighten with an impact until it snaps off.

Wire brush threads
Soak with moovit penetrating fluid
Heat with torch
Then impact off
Never have to fool around if it’s done right

I went straight for the angle grinder, cut through it like butter

My 09 focus has a slot on the backside you can slide a 17 mm wrench on it and impact on the front and you're done, the bottom you gotta do by hand.

The hot rod comes in handy with jobs like this or the hot wrench whatever type of heat that's at your disposal up here in the Midwest

Had this same issue doing some suspension work last week. Used a wrench on the backside to keep it from spinning. Granted I live in the south so no rust

Always buy the ones with the flat spots on the back if possible

I cut off the bolt flush with the nut and it comes off with the smallest impact I have and no heat. (Sucks when you can't fit the grinder in to cut it off though)

What can we put on the threads to stop the rust? A plastic nipple? There has to be more thought for the auto industry w exposed threads and nut
