I love hearing from Steve Porcaro. Is it true he is working on another solo album?

I thought Mickey Thomas might have been a great fit as David reportedly wrote songs which were too high for Bobby's voice. Mickey just had such great high range. I thought I read that Mickey and Richard Page weren't interested at the time. I loved Bobby's voice though.

I was definitely sad when that happened. I wondered how things would go on, for sure!

The first three Toto records were magical.

Fergie was definitely a new direction, but his voice was so powerful and clean. Bobby was more soulful, but I do enjoy Isolation... admittedly, though, I listen to Fahrenheit more.

David Hungate played bass on TOTO IV but wanted out and left before the ROSANNA video was done. So, two original members (talking about Kimball), the two oldest members of the group, were out before 1984.

Erik Martin from Mr Big tried out for the band but Jeff did not like him so it didn't happen. Toto wanted Swedish singer Tommy Nilsson but he was keeping such a low profile after partying too hard, they could not get to him. Bobby was not easy at the time because he would not show up for studio sessions or live shows. Paich reflected on the lead singer change a few years ago saying the band was so used to working as a unit with different singers, they just moved on while they should have waited a little more for Kimball to get his act together. Changing the singer inevitably changes the sound of the band.

Wait a minute Steve has long brown hair with those Mary Tyler Moore glasses. Who is this old geezer? and what have you done with Steve? lol. Yeah time man it goes by fast and hard. Toto was one of those bands from the 70s that you just knew it would be one crazy ride

I get the feeling Steve really doesn’t like talking about Toto.

1:16 - "a terrible time". May be it was just too much for the band. Huge success with Toto IV, studio-jobs, substances, parties. Steve still seems to be melancholic about the development.

I read an interview with Luke years ago where he said they'd approached Jon Anderson to replace Bobby but obviously it didn't happen. However, if you listen to the vocal nuances and even the timbre of Fergie's vocal on 'Isolation' there is some similarities between him and Jon.

Is that from the old Friday night show?

I thought Axl Rose would have been a great fit, considering it was around that time where he failed the random drug test. We will never know...
