New Volkswagen Taigo review: is VW’s latest SUV any good?

How much choice is too much choice? Volkswagen offers not one but three small-ish SUVs: the T-Cross, T-Roc and the new Taigo, which squeezes into a tiny gap between the other two. It’s a coupe version of the T-Cross, and both cars are based on the Volkswagen Polo. Most of the parts – whether you’re looking inside the cabin or under the bonnet – have been used in numerous VW, SEAT and Skoda models; so, while the Taigo doesn’t feel very distinctive, it’s easy to operate and should be cheap to run. But, is it the small SUV for you? Nicola puts it to the test.

That rear antenna really makes it look cheap. A shark fine would tie the look together amazingly

Nicola really is fab. I’ve got my eye on the Taigo but not sure I’m fully convinced

The Ssangyong Actyon was available 3 years before the X6. I'm sure there are not many things that Ssangyong have created first but this couple/SUV muddle could be one. As for the Taigo/Nivus its a nice looking car / hatchback.

Great video presentation as always, but I find VW interiors very boring and low quality looking….. Audi interiors are much better…

A great practical and stylish car but that interior quality looks like maybe a tad too much cost saving for the price. It does look good though and is practical for most I guess. The lack of twisty do's though is a black mark against what seems like an increasing number of cars. Nicola, start a petition on safety grounds to get the twisty do's mandated to cars (that we like and can afford anyway) and just maybe the law makers and law breakers might just notice.

I think this car looks great outside. The interior is quite good too. The Skoda Kamiq might be even better though

Go check the car first from close people.. Get a test drive and then have opinions and impressions. It’s an exceptional car!!

The wife got one last year 1.0 TSI R-Line 110ps version and I have to say it's been amazing build is on par with my 21 plate Octavia estate and drives just as good if I'm honest it's refined and feels like a real quality product. The people banging on about the T-roc your having a laugh it's got zero style and looks like a cheap box for pensioners compared to this when you see them side by side.

I think the Kamiq is the better package, especially in Monte Carlo guise.

My experience driving it was very bad I must say. It is marked as like a bigger Polo for better visibility in the city (no way this thing is going off-road), but exactly the good visibility is missing with this car, very bad view what’s behind you through the window and also to the side and rear sides as the pillars are blocking a lot of the view.
Further, I drove the 1L 3 cylinder engine with DSG and the reaction of it was EXTREMELY slow, it almost felt like I wasn’t controlling the accelerator myself… Adding to that the very random spec I was driving had navigation, CarPlay etc but no automatic climate. The only good thing I can say is the handling in town use because the steering is very light but I don’t think that’s too god for outer city driving
