Please a minute of silence for the old laptop...

Thank Judd your arch install survived. I almost had a heart attack when you said the lap died.
Hopefully the de-bloating of your new machine will go great.
BTW, I use arch.

I see we're stripping keyboard hardware as well now.

Good luck man, I hope Arch keeps blessing your journey

I really think that they’re both in perfect, fabulous condition. See how the keyboard on the Lenovo is typable? Average Linux user to me.

Isn't it time you tried Ben Eater's tutorial and just made your own computer from scratch? With the right cross compiler you could get C64 levels of usability in no time. Oh and I use Slackware, btw.

Wow! I didn't know you used Arch Linux btw!

Edit: since many of you have asked: yes, I too use Arch btw

Can’t wait to see a keyboard comprising of only the keypad because alphabetic keyboards are dumb when you can just...

Type in the UTF-8 code for every character 🥶

Interesting timing as my Linux laptop also died today

That laptop looks too recent and in a condition that makes it still look brand new, how shameful of you.
The machine must be *at least* 15 years past the guarantee expiration to become valuable for a true Linux user.

Fixed at that UNIX timestamp. Lol. Great job man.

Am I the only one who runs insane over-the top builds on Linux? Even with sub-zero cooled processor (-60c at idle, max temp of -35c under stress tests) you can still tell a big difference between Windows and Linux speed. I also run triple 4k monitors, have quad GPU (water cooled) for gaming.

But we can all enjoy a puppy Wary distro on an old single core processor with DDR1 memory, its still fast enough that most Windows users could still use that and not realize just how obsolete it is, because well compared to Windows... Its not that much slower than a shiny new machine!

Wow the timing. I turned my 10 year old laptop in the closet to a Ubuntu home server, because why not.

the way he calls it a lap instead of a laptop because it has no screen

All a computer needs is two buttons, one for 1 and one for 0.
