I don’t know why everyone wants to ignore the legal truth about the original versions. Lucas will never sell them due to his ex wife getting a major cut of any profits after the divorce, he changed them to avoid that issue 🤷‍♂️

That's his problem. I jave them on Laserdisc and VHS. These are the real Star Wars films...

From what I understand, the 2006 DVDs had the laser disc transfers of the theatrical films that you own on laser disc (apparently, the transfer quality on the DVDs is poor). Someone please correct me, if I'm wrong.

As for the 4K/blu ray discs, regardless of the video quality, those cases/artwork are beautiful. Although, I do wish Return of the Jedi had artwork more similar to New Hope and Empire.

I was able to purchase the despecialized bluray versions on ebay some years back and they look perfect. I've never watched the updated altered versions on purpose since the originals are what I grew up watching and love as they are.

I bought this trilogy when the crew put them out on standard blu and they’re perfect. I never watch the Di$ney 4Ks. There was a guy online who put them all together real nice, printed covers, and shipped em to me. Worth every penny.

I feel like Han shooting first is more inline with the character. He is a scoundrel when we first meet him. He doesn't start to show any growth out of that until the very end of Episode 4.

George hates the original and that has been true since the 1990s, I doubt that will change. What is strange is how the 1997 edits are also missing on Blu-Ray and 4K and they had to restore those and Phantom Menace theatrical cut as well.

It's a shame that you can't get the OG trilogy on a quality release. It's worse that you can't get the pre-Marcia Lucas cut of Star Wars. Would love to see it in that documentary style with all the long cuts. I had a boot DVD I made back in the day from a FLAC torrent but the sound sucked and the picture was stretched. Gave it to a friend whose kids got a lot of miles out of it.

I went to the theater, in the 90's and saw Star wars on the big screen. The theater was totally empty.
My parents were divorced, so this was when my dad would take us all out for the day. Because I wanted to be an actor he took me to a bunch of stage plays. Mainly show tunes, which I loved and I still love musicals. He also took us other places of course. Once to the St.Patrick's day parade and a car show.

My grandpa, who again was a total movie nerd loved Star wars and owned the box set with all 3 movies on VHS, which included "the making of" behind the scenes footage.
So I watched that box set for a while, over and over again. I saw the phantom menace and was disgusted, and again as a horror fan and general movie fan, in the 2000's I was like "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?! Star wars sucks, Halloween sucks, Friday the 13th sucks, Child's play sucks. What the fuck?!" So I ended up reluctantly watching Attack of the clones and that is when I went "I am so disgusted I hence forth am BOYCOTTING Star wars. The Star wars franchise is officially DEAD TO ME now." Now I know a lot of fans can look past the prequels, will watch the original 3 movies and put the prequels out of their minds, but it so tainted my love for Star wars, and the fact that Lucas refused to release the ORIGINAL FILMS the way they were intended, it's been decades and decades now, going on 3 decades that I have not watched a single star wars movie. My brother had to force me to watch The Mandalorian, and I was like "This is great. I'm shocked. This is actually good!!!" and Yoda has always been my favorite character, so I loved seeing baby Yoda...so now I am finally going "I need to give the first 3 movies a rewatch all these years. I need to end the boycott." lol. But I will never watch the prequels again, or any of the other recent movies. So ya, I'm gonna be watching the original 3 movies relatively soon, eventually, lol and I am hopeful all the altered stuff doesn't make me go "F**** YHOU! F*** YUUUO! I'm done! I'm boycotting again!" lol. I hope I can just accept it, live with it, and move on and still enjoy the movies.

Ooh. I missed this. I have those nice blu rays of the original star wars. I was in line witb my dad and saw it in 1977. And it did change my life.

Team Negative 1 did an incredible job scanning and restoring the 35mm prints. I have them all downloaded in their most recent versions. Star Wars and Return of the Jedi are both insanely high quality. Empire was the toughest job for them as the only print they had access to was in very bad condition. All the thanks in the world to them.

Love Star Wars but on a side note. Where did you get that Noid plush?

It is unfortunate that the original versions of the original trilogy are not available officially on 4K Blu-Ray and most of the time I do my best to support the official releases of the movie's on home video but as you said there was a DVD release from 2006 that had the so called "Theatrical Version" on disc two of each of the movie's but in reality they were mostly just the master files for the 93/95 Laserdisc releases just ported over to DVD with only one minor change to Star Wars to exclude the Episode IV A New Hope subtitle from the opening crawl of the film to match the OG release of the movie but aside from that your only getting the Laserdisc versions from 93/95 which means not only do you have the big black bars on the top and bottom of the screen but you also get the big black bars on the left and right of the screen as well because it's a non-anamorphic letterboxed version of the movie's that were intended for viewing on a 4:3 television and not a 16:9 screen and then I do have the official Star Wars Skywalker Saga boxset from 2020 but those are the latest versions of the Special Edition's of the movie's with the CGI and all. Now back to what I was saying at the start of this comment it is unfortunate that there hasn't been a proper official release of these versions of the movie's but I do own these versions of the movie's you have on my computer as I do not have them burned on 4K Blu-Ray discs like you do but most of the time I just plug my computer into my TV and watch these on my TV and I don't usually support any kind of homemade or bootleg stuff but I did make one exception and that was for the Star Wars Holiday Special because there is no official home video release for that whatsoever and there probably never will be but it was something I saw at my local comic convention and I picked it up there but aside from that I don't usually support buying a bootleg DVD or Blu-Ray of anything unless they have been gifted to me or I did it myself with only the intent for my own personal home viewing.

I am one that refuses to own the special editions. I have the Definitive Collection on laserdisc. Gorgeous box set! I have an unboxing video. I did buy the de-specialized editions on blu-ray and was surprised how good they were.

Dude I had (and still) that gold VHS box set too, and Return Of The Jedi was my most watched tape as well! Those 1997 special editions are also lost versions of Star Wars as George Lucas has since changed those versions too.

I don't think most people realize how sophisticated the world of bootlegging is becoming. There's an Australian company that's making factory pressed bootlegs of old Anchor Bay DVDs. I picked up Freaked, Near Dark, and Dutch. I have a ton of legit Anchor Bay releases and the bootlegs are basically the same quality as the offical discs. And those Warner Bros Tales From The Crypt box sets are factory pressed bootlegs too.

I managed to pick up the despecialised versions on bluray from eBay a few years ago. I have a huge collection of 80s fantasy movies and they feel right at home in these versions with original theatrical art on the covers. I think this is a great example of the best thing fans are capable of.

I've had downloaded the Harmy versions and the Oohteedee D+ versions. I prefer the Oohteedee versions as he takes the official Disney 4k versions and then used scans of theatrical film to replace the offensive CGI. Though the latest versions aren't perfect. As there are some shots that are lower quality where I know there are better quality scans floating around. I have the files on a USB drive connected to my blu-ray player. That way I don't have to mess with burning discs.

So hopefully he'll do a new version some time. If Disney would put out the theatrical versions in 4k, I'd gladly buy it.
