Rule of the road

The COLREG include 41 rules divided into six sections:

Part A - General;

Part B - Steering and Sailing;

Part C - Lights and Shapes;

Part D - Sound and Light signals;

Part E - Exemptions; and.

Part F - Verification of compliance with the provisions of the Convention.

How many rules are there in ROR?

In total there are thirty eight rules which are given in five parts A, B, C, D, and E which refer to the rules relating to General, Steering and Sailing, Light & Shapes, Sound and Light Signals and Exemptions respectively.

What are the 72 Colregs?

The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 (COLREGS) are published by the International Maritime Organization and are recognized as the navigation rules followed internationally by ships and other vessels at sea.
