Just been trying to work out how to use my Rode mic on iphone for my videos, as the built in mic doesn't like the sound of powertools. Another added bonus would be that I wouldn't have to drag my camera gear around with me all the time. Found this video and it was extreamely helpful Thank you. I have subscribed

#QOTD My favourite mic is the Boya BY-M1 it has everything! Long cable, amazing sound quality, powered pre amp, really long battery life and one of the cheapest lav mics on the market.

Am I the only one who don't hear any difference 2:02?

I too have - and love the sound of - a Shure MV88. I use it with an iPad mini 4, but when I’m outdoors and have the iPad in a Griffin Survivor case, I use either a CableJive dockStub (with a piece of duct tape to ensure the mic doesn’t fall off) or a dockXtender cable from the same company. Both have worked great for over a year now, tho’ you do have to keep an eye on the LED to make sure the mic stays connected. You must plug the mic into the stub or cable _before_ attaching to the I-device.
On my Nokia 8 Android phone I use another solution: using FilmicPro, I attach a ZOOM H2n by USB mini to USB-C OTG cable, taking power from the phone. This gives you great quality stereo sound and even 4-channel or spatial sound. You can also use dead cat outdoors. You can also use the two devices separately and sync sound and vision in post.

I’m almost POSITIVE the first mic never was using the microphone but was still using the phone mic. I looked away from my phone screen, listened real hard and did not hear a difference. The reviews on Amazon are AMAZING. There is no way that difference is that tiny and the reviews are that good.

I currently use both the RODE SmartLav+ and the RODE VideoMic Me (previous model) with my iPhone 7. Like Sean mentions if you want a mic that’s richer/deeper in sound and fantastic for podcast style narration go with the shotgun VideoMic Me (L).

The SmartLav+ (definitely with extension cord) is what I use for my general talking-head style videos. Not as rich in sound but still solid for reducing most (but not all) echo.

Thank you! I struggle with video audio. The MV88 sounds like the best option for me!

I use the MV88 with IPAD pro...I record audio and monitor through the headphone jack.
Sounds great and it lets me monitor my tone of voice.

I've been using the Shure MV88 for recording my concerts and also for some vlogs. The mic sounds amazing and I love it. However, I was really annoyed to find out that you have to use it in airplane mode (so no livestreaming), because it grabs interference from cell connections or wifi! Other than that it's perfect and built like a tank. If you wan't to livestream, avoid this mic.

Thank you! This is exactly what I've been looking for. You've been a blessing in my life at the beginning stage of growing my YT channel! I've received positive comments about my videos but the only negative is the audio quality. I'll be purchasing the MV88 today. Many blessings to you ;)

This was so helpful bridging the generation gap between my old stuff and current. Great to know i can use my zoom recorders thru usb also.

Very informative video, but please look up definition of "dongle". All those cables and add-ons you feature are adapters / converters, not dongles. A dongle plugs into something and has nothing connected to the other end!

Just bought the Rode VideoMic Me-L Directional Microphone for iOS Devices because of you - I hope it turns out well. My audio on my videos are sub par at the moment and I'm hoping this will help!

The Shure MVL Lav is officially the winner. Nice/full lows, smooth highs, higher gain at a distance and a smoother sound. Thanks for the great videos as always! Would love to hear your thoughts on the Sennheiser MKE600 Camcorder Shotgun Microphone.

You have a error in your video regarding the TRS connection on professional microphones. The professional microphone that you are using with the trs adapter is not stereo but balanced audio. Ground, Hot and Neutral. You need the ground for phantom power on condenser microphones as they require voltage to operate. TRS connectors can be found in a wide range of applications such as stereo headphones but in this application you are taking balanced audio and converting it to the trs connector with the phone.
