Add a medium size paper binder (clip) from any office supply store to use to keep hotel curtains closed. Clip curtains closed at the bottom with a bit of overlap. Sometimes you need to sleep in. As a former airline pilot, I learned to get more sleep with this hack. Who wants a blast of sunlight streaming in through a crack in your curtains? A wonderful flight attendant shared that one with me on my very first trip.

Hi, I have been traveling with only one bag only for 20+ years. I realized very early that wheels add weight to your suitcase, a couple of pounds, and you have to carry it using your hands at least 50% of the time. SO I travel with either a backpack or a small bag. It is better to use soft bags rather than hard shell suitcases. And keep it even lighter than possible.

Nothing quite like having to spread out your stuff on the airport floor to decide what you can throw away to make the weight limit on your flight home. And sometimes the airline won’t let you take extra weight even if you are willing to pay for it. It convinced me that a luggage scale is crucial.

As an aviator for 40 years and a 1 bag only traveler for those 40 years and more than 3, 000 trips I don't know any PROFESSIONAL who STILL uses packing cubes.
Every experienced traveler that I know uses one gallon Ziploc bags which saves an amazing amount of space because you can easily squeeze out all the air and it takes up less space.
What would a ziplock bag you can easily see what's inside everything no guessing.
Finally if anything happens to leak your whole bag is not ruined which is something you cannot do with cubes

Instead of a beach towel, I take a microfiber towel in its own zipper bag. It weighs almost nothing compared to the bulky beach towel and has dual purposes. When folded in its bag it serves as a pillow or back cushion and as a beach towel it dries quickly. It can also serve as a wrap or blanket on the flight. I never use the bulky beach towels anymore, even when I drive to the beach.

If you forget or don't own your portable luggage scale, weigh your luggage on a scale at any empty airline ticketing kiosk....they're always working whether someone is there or not

Packing cube is a MUST. It saved my life while traveling around Europe.

Yeah! Carry on is the way to go. 7kg isn't much, but its possible. Seeing others travel with big heavy check in luggage looks awkward and unnecessary. You can always get your clothes cleaned at your destination when needed.

Every time I go to the USA, I take old and tatty underwear/pairs of socks etc ..wear them during my holiday, discard them as I go, and then travel home with packs of new underwear and no dirty washing!

I totally agree with what you say about rolling clothes when packing them. For brushing teeth, I use some toothpaste tablets. The particular ones I use thankfully don't contain fluoride. I also have a shampoo bar, soap bar, deodorant stick and a conditioner bar. The shampoo and conditioner bars in particular last for so long! They take up very little space in my bag, so can put the pars in their tins and off we go. The jar of toothpaste tablets is tiny too, so you can reuse it for say chopped or ground herbs or spices etc. That's what I plan to do with mine anyway. Those last for ages too since you only use one at a time.

Good tips/ hacks.   Thank You for clarifying the ONE Liter total  thing for all Liquids.   Now I have to  Doublecheck all my below 100ml  items to make sure they do not add up !  Good Point about carrying solid forms of some liquids.  One item I always carry is a small solid  "Laundry bar".   In case I am in the middle of no where, no change of clothes etc.. . Excellent towel -  Neck pillow idea btw .  have a great week.

On one flight from Helsinki to Singapore, I have over 20 lbs overweight and I just checked in one of the carry on while leaving the rest outside, and it works! Phew! did not have to pay for any overweight item!

Here's also a little hack:
Bring along (in your liquids bag) a container with washing detergent. So you can easily wash dirty clothes in the sink and in the end, you don't have to bring along a lot of clothes for every single day.

Also: make sure to check out the carry-on policies of your airline. They can vary by a lot. From a carry-on without any weight restrictions to 10/8/6 kg. Also the sizes are not universal, and some airlines only allow you to only take a personal item with you.
