This helped me a TON. I ended up with a Volt 2 and I go direct in from my Friedman IR-X, and some Yamaha HS4 as my monitors from the Volt. Didnt even need the computer to be able to just play.

you're right, there are tons of videos out there.. but.. they all telling you what they've learned 10 years ago. No comparisons between going into an interface direct, recording the amp, using a modeling amp, using a multieffect etc.. if you already have plenty of stuff at home and want to start to record, what can you use what can you sell.. this topic can be easy but i can also get very complex..

Ahh remember the good ol' days when you would load up all your computer's PCI slots with soundcards in conjunction with using the onboard sound for a multchannel input... it was like living in the future back then.

15 years ago i used my Pc to record some guitar. Sounded a bit like ass, But my chain was guitar, DOD super distortion, Fostex 4 track cassette mixer, And a 2into1 cord Left and right RCA into one 3.5mm, that was plugged into my computers microphone input. I used Soundforge or Cakewalk to record, (I don't remember which), the Guitar.
That was cheap.

Before I had an audio interface I used a Rocksmith cable and Bias FX standalone 😂

i got a steinberg 2 channel while my regular stuff is in storage. it was a return, wasn't even out of the foam bag, a pair of mackie monitors, they interconnect over rca, old crap... that still works fine. figuring how to get pipewire to route the audio for the guitar effect program separately from the laptop speakers was not easy, NO instructions in the app(helvum), once figured it became stupidly easy. then... guitarix, the lag while tuning, and also playing a 3d video game is unacceptable, but i don't intend to play while playing.
home recording these days, it's a cheap paradise.

I use a Line 6 UX2 interface, plugged into my PC which has a Ryzen 7 1700X 8-core processor at 3.4 GHz, 16gb of ram, and a Nvidia RTX 2060. I have a 2 monitor display setup. I have M-Audio BX3 graphite monitors plugged into the analog outs of the UX2. There's also a digital output, if I want to run the sound to stereo receiver with a speaker array to hear how a mix would sound, not through the studio monitors.
For plugins, I have Amplitube 5 and also Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol which came with Guitar Rig 7. As for DAWs, I have FL studio 20 and Ableton lite...but any DAW would work (they all have their learning curves). Sometimes and often in the past, I would just use Audacity, when I'm recording direct or with a pedal setup or with mic'd speakers. I don't have a space to mic up my speaker cabs, anymore, so I have been doing less, mic'd recording.
I also have a Lenovo gaming laptop, which I have most of the same software, installed, and a small behringer interface (or an older M-Audio interface) that I can take with me, if I'm going over a friend's house and want to take my digital rig. He's got amps and cabs, so, I typically will just output to them, so, I don't have to bring my active monitors with me.

It is not that much, to buy a Audio Interface with 2 xlr inputs.And make sure it has phantom power. I use Line 6 with stereo patching. Yamaha Steinberg UR22MKII 2-Channel USB Interface. 2 x 2 USB 2.0 audio interface
24-Bit/192 kHz & Two Class-A D-PRE mic preamps .
PRESONUS is awful. Plastic crap. Most of them are. But the Yamaha is all metal. Very solid build.

how about quad cortex? do u still need interface when using quad cortex or kemper or whatever?
