What size hook for live bait, maybe a blue gill a little bigger than that one

I can't keep live bluegill on the hook while making long casts of 50/60 yards or more. Long casts puts a lot of torque pressure on the bluegill and the hook tears right through it. Any tips on how to keep the bluegill on the hook.

I use a 2oz bank sinker and come up about 2 to 3 feet from the weight.
