all manga shading types:
hatching: straight lines, the more spread out the more light, same goes for the opposite.

cross-hatching: straight lines but you do it again but the opposite way

(forgot name) : you do small dots that the closer it is the more dark and the more spread out the lighter this is used mostly in horror mangas

small note: theres more ways, and in this drawing he adds texture to creases by making thicker short line on the skin

Nothing about how the angle of the lines can affect the look, how varying the distance between lines can be used, how you can layer hatching to produce deeper effects, how to stay consistent, how to practice, you didn't even give examples of Mangas actually using the technique.

Your tutorial was "draw lines"... Man, you have to give more info than that.

I actually attempted it to see how well I could do it, here two advices:
1- Fast does not equal hard, but if you go too soft the line will be not that visible, try to maintain roughness
2- going inwards can give you more control on short strokes
