Hemmer was a supporting character on the series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He was played by Canadian actor Bruce Horak.
Hemmer was a male Aenar subspecies of the Andorian species. Like all other Aenar he was blind but had strong telepathic abilities and his other senses more than made up for his lack of eyesight. Hemmer did not see his lack of eyesight as a disability or impairment. He joined Starfleet because he believed his purpose in life was to fix what was broken and felt the Federation's Starfleet would be a good place to do that.

In 2259 he was posted to the USS Enterprise as chief engineer, succeeding Louvier. Like other Aenar he was a pacifist who would not fight, but would instead do what he had to in order to protect his shipmates. Hemmer took a particular shine to the young Cadet Nyota Uhura, who had been posted to Enterprise from the academy for a training cycle. When she was unsure of what to do with her life, he encouraged her to find her purpose, and would have a strong effect on her development as a Starfleet officer. Hemmer was also friends with Lieutenant Spock, and the two liked to engage in hazing new cadets.

this was so sad man... i actually liked hemmer as chief engineer, was finally warming up to him and then.. :'( oh. :'(

rly liked his speech about sure people can hurt you, but the love they will bring will outweigh the sorrow. THIS is the star trek i remember.

He was a new character set in an era that I love that I really truly could’ve grown two appreciate on the levels of the original series

The days coming up to its airing, Paramount is like OH S@#T! He became a fan favorite, and we are about to air that we killed him off! That's what happens when you hire great actors to play throwaway characters.

Makes room for Scotty, but I did like the character, was very underused. I don't think he's dead though

Maybe he's not really dead. Could he survive that jump somehow live in world similar to home?
