In 20 years you will receive a decision letter which states “Your knee and back pain have been deemed non-service connected”.

Fourteen years and at least thirty pounds ago at age 38 I could run two miles in twelve minutes at Fort Bliss. Now, everything from the waist down hurts on both sides everyday. I have no regrets for serving in the US Army. These guys are chasing the dream.

Carrying an extra 60 pounds is really what did my back in. As a Forward Observer your radio is in your pack, and you can't just drop it like the Infantry guys can. Had to do everything they did while carrying my pack. That was nearly 20 years ago. I'm 37 now and if I stand too long, sit too long, lay down too long, my back aches and my knees hurt so much I can't go up or down stairs.
