I listen to Keir Starmer, to Kamala Harris, to any western leader and suddenly realise what Hannah Arendt meant when she wrote about ‘the banality of evil’.

This is the most articulate and succinct description of “how we got here” available anywhere. Every American should pause and reflect on what is expressed here.

Always a pleasure to listen to Jeffrey Sachs. An excellent guest. More examination would require the role of the increasingly disastrous situation of the US economy plays in the contemporary goings on.

3 days back US removed Democratically elected in Jan 24, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina from power. She was in power for 15 Yrs, removed by colored revolution through students mass protests. Although, she had put opposition leaders behind bars.
While Pakistan on the other hand had most dubious last elections to date, in its history & it's main opposition party PTI was not permitted to participate in elections it's leader Imran Khan was put behind bars for more than 6 months now, by military dictatorship.

Same situation but different results by US state department. In fact in all this deputy NSA Donald Leu was involved along with Victory Nuland, who subsequently left office. In fact both EX PMs, removed from office, blamed David leu for removing them from office.
So, all this talk of saving Democracy in countries is facade of lies & deceits by Western Powers. US is in the habit of DESTABILIZING countries for small issues or proving their might to the world as lone SUPERPOWER.

The U.S. has also invaded or bombed dozens of countries and supported nearly every single right-wing dictatorship in the world since the end of World War II. It has overthrown or attempted to overthrow dozens of foreign governments since 1949 and has actively sought to crush nearly every single people’s liberation movement over that same period. It has also meddled in scores of elections, in countries that are allies and adversaries alike. Forcing other countries to “adopt there so called American values .”

Prof. Sachs is a little unfair in mocking the UK for claiming to be a powerful empire. The British Empire never really ended, it continued in the form of the US empire. Historically and civilizationally it's the same thing, for all practical purposes: the Anglo-Saxon empire. (The metropolis of which Canada, Australia and New Zealand are integral parts, along with the US and the UK.)
