This track reminds me of the happy times I had as a teenager in the early 1980s in N/W London. I met David Essex in London for Red Nose Day in the late 80s.

We went on holidays to Donegal in '82 and this was on the car radio for most of the way - nostalgia! Listening again, it is very musically sophisticated - knocks the socks off what we have today. Essex definitely deserves much more recognition - I'm constantly finding out stuff he's done which I never knew.

This got to number 13 in the UK singles chart in June 1982. His first chart appearance in two years. Liked the instrumental break at 1:57 with the brass and bass sound ! One of my favourite David Essex's songs, yet it never gets played on the "Oldies" radio stations.

He was absolutely gorgeous David Essex my god saw him live 3 times and it was wonderful to see him play live saw him in Ipswich and twice in Cambridge and my mum came with me the last i went to see him play live it was brilliant and been a fan of his saw him on top of the pops in 1973 i was 15 and thought what a great song lamplight was and i went to see both his flims that will the day and going to make you a star

I heard this wonderful song two days ago while having lunch with my sister. I was hooked, it sounds so cute! I was lucky to have found it because all I remembered was "me and my girl out on town" and the google search kept leading me to gangsta rap :)
