This video makes me truly wish I lived in Vancouver! I haven’t had a really great pair of shoes in a number of years. Now, it has become pretty painful to walk. My feet hurt all the time despite the fact the bottom of my feet have an ‘always-on’ numbness plus pins & needles (like the tissue on the bottom of my feet have fallen asleep). I’ve been to podiatrists for help with footwear, which if it hadn’t been that the shoes this podiatrist told me would ‘solve my feet woes cost me $180 (USD), I’d say his help was worthless. The shoes have never fit right for me. I gave them to a friend of my daughter’s who said they fit her well. One of the worst problems with the shoes was that the padding ‘bumper’ that fits up to the back of the heel that sort of rounds off (should round off anyhow) at the Achilles’ tendon area, on my foot, was so low that it rubbed blisters on the back of my foot/round heel area. Socks didn’t matter. Varying degrees of swelling in the foot didn’t matter. I was never able to slip my feet into these shoes where my heel could slide in where the feet felt ‘seated’ within the shoes.

When I’m able to find a shoe that fits even semi decently, I wear them until they fall off my feet. The last pair of somewhat comfortable shoes I had were by New Balance. They were discontinued. I bought another type of New Balance, tho they aren’t… er, weren’t very comfortable, at least not until I took an exacto blade to the shoes. I had the same problem with the padding & shapi;g piece in the back of the heel. I cut into the area at the back inner part of the shoe so I could remove the padding so my foot could properly ‘seat’ my heel with no padding in the mid-back heel that would cause my heel to be rubbed raw. However, in the years since buying this pair of shoes & their subsequent surgery, now the bottom is worn beyond words.

I’ve had to endure endless months of wearing foot & leg casts (both feet/leg casted), specific physical therapy, splints, hard walking boots, countless diagnoses of stress fractures, being told I have high arches/abnormal high arches, told that it was my fault for the stress fracturing & it was going to cause my feet to become wider & wider. The only good thing that came out of any of this was an passing comment regarding compression socks. They do help with my legs/legs pain. I learned that I also have Morton’s neuroma inflammation too.

It’s been almost a week since having injections to help with pain levels caused by an impingement in the L4-5 area that’s been causing excruciating sciatic pain, worse on the right, tho it doesn’t help that my left knee joint is rubbing bone on bone, requiring injections of Zilretta a few times a year. This is made worse by lupus, Sjogren’s, Fibro, & a truckload of osteoarthritis.

I just feel like the one thing that would help tremendously would be finding (& being able to afford) the right fitting shoes. I’d really like a high top shoe only bc I think it’d lend more support to my ankles.

I have tried to find a place near me or even near enough I could get a ride to a place that has the ability to properly measure my feet & find shoes that would fit well. I’d love it even more if I could have a pair of indoor shoes & outdoor shoes. I don’t wear shoes in the house, tho I’ve been told that I should. The no shoe policy I’ve had has made it easier for me to keep a cleaner home. Shoes are removed & stored near the front door. I have another area near my back door as it leads to my vegetable garden.

Would you mind sharing any information you think might help? I’d really love to find a well fitting pair of shoes that didn’t require me to take a knife to them to make them comfortable. The only two stores I’ve ever known near me were mom & pop shoe stores. Sadly, big box Walmart ran them out of business & with that went my last pairs of decent fitting shoes.

Forgive me the length of my post. I’m just at the end of my rope.

Use the arch length number to determine foot width?

So should he buy a 7, 7.5 or 8. How much room should one leave at the end of the shoe?

It didn't really assisted in the actual measuring and purchasing.. I have a brannock device and despite my perfect measurements all my shoes end up larger by 1 inch or more - and yes before I get the flame I am aware manufacturers, types, and styles, etc are all different, which is no big deal when going to the actual stores, but online is the real challenge, and let's face it, online is perhaps 80% of shopping for the average American. So in conclusion, what's the verdict here?
