Ferrari V8 party! Review of the much loved Ferrari F355!

After our review of the 348 GTB in the last episode, naturally we turn our attention to the F355 Berlinetta for this week's episode. Unlike the 348 GTB, the F355 always enjoyed a beautiful reputation as it was extremely popular right off the bat. It was one of the earliest model from the Ferrari 2-seater V8 line up to appreciate in value - the term "instant classic" has never been more appropriately designated!

The car we are reviewing today is also the rare F1 transmission version, which as we all know was the first ever F1 generation by Ferrari. It would no doubt be outdated compared to today's technology, but is it respectable or awful? Join me to find out!

I've had an F1 Berlinetta just like this, but in LHD (in North America)! I can help out with a few things:

1. Nit-picking, but the F355 came out in 1994 :)
2. The downshifts need to be manually rev-matched for the best result, because it's still a cable throttle. It's decent fun to blip even without a clutch pedal!

As usual, loved your footage and your driving experience. The exhaust sounds great; mine had the Tubi exhaust and it sounds like this one has it too. Best-sounding Ferrari V8 road car ever.

The 355 is a concentrate of revolutionary technology in its time. First road Ferrari available with electro-actuated gearbox, flat bottom with ground effect and electronically controlled suspensions. Magnesium alloy wheels, titanium connecting rods, variable geometry exhaust and intake system (and much more). I prefer the very first version without an airbag and with a split fuel system (one per bank); definitely with manual gearbox. Congratulations on the amazing video. Thank you. Greetings from Sicily.

Interesting notes on the torque and build-up of torque in the 348, F355, 360. That's the kind of info you don't find on Wikipedia. Basically, all three use the same engine (of course, from one generation to the next it gets upgraded), so apparently Ferrari tuned the characteristic of it differently. I looked up the torque curves and indeed the 360 has much earlier peak torque. But revving it out it quite closely matches the F355 curve, meaning Ferrari has traded some top-end pull for more initial pull. Meanwhile the 348 has a pretty flat curve until the end and looks the most like an old school racing engine that benefits from being squeezed out to the max.

Thank you for another excellent review - the 355 is absolutely an iconic car and for many possibly the best modern-classic Ferrari. The sound alone is something unique, and to hear a 355 on full-chat is just pure music to any car enthusiast. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to your next videos!

1 out of 88 that’s very rare! Yet these 355f1 are just asking 7xx, which is much lower than the mt ones, probably because it’s not a smart gearbox as you said?

How would you say this particular 355 compared to the 348 TB you reviewed? Would you say the 348 is closer to the 355 or the 328, as far as acceleration and driving experience?
