These stories are so important. When we have the occasion to travel to Europe, we always make sure to visit the camps and memorials in the area. We all have a role to play in educating ourselves.

No matter how often I get confronted with this terrible crime, I find it hard to imagine the suffering pain of millions of people.

I visited this camp and the guide showed us some drawings a former french architect drew while being imprisoned there
I'm a french speaker and the former architect had put elements into his drawings that only native french speakers could understand because of the nuances in the description
I'm glad I could translate it to the group I was with

The memories are so painful, yet that is why they must be preserved for eternity.

I visited Dachau 10 years ago, it was as sparse and as clean as it is in this camp, and absolutely accessible. That terrified me more than if it looked like a dark distant dungeon as it was back in the day. The Transformation of a site of unimaginable evil and suffering is not on another planet and another millennia. Todays Dachau site looked as though it could be reverted within the blink of an eye, right here, right now. Just like a factory being refitted to manufacture another product line.

I think often if I were there I would not have survived.

That first picture is terrifying. I know it’s a drawing but that was how it was. Those living conditions are horrible. I can’t believe they did this to innocent people

The drawings may not be by David Olere but they are in his style, deeply psychologically disturbed and distorted.

Also, there was grass. They would have eaten it.
