All the critters, birds, & some predators are going to be feasting. FEASTING. this is their stuffed crust supreme pizza with 16 bone-in wings, 5 cheese dip & bread twists, loaded tots, & lava cake, feast. Ohhh the lucky animals will stuff themselves into a food coma.

Ya know, back in 01' if I remember the year correctly, we had thousands of these in our yard. My dad laughed because he didn't mow the yard that summer. We had a neighbor come and cut it for hay. It seemed like every tall blade of grass had one on it. For whomever stated they loved their songs must have not had the experience of having thousands in your yard. It was ear piercing non stop for weeks. Yet, ya know what. One day they were just gone. There wasn't any damage done. I found them in the creek too, underwater, which fascinated me. They obviously can live underwater in the creepy bug stage, before they shed their shell and have wings. I don't see any need for anyone to panic over them unless you are OCD about mowing your yard. I don't recommend mowing if they are in your yard!

I tried last year to film one, and all of a sudden, here came my neighbors cats, grabbed it and ran; the poor cicada was screeching.😢

Periodical cicadas don't lay low to thwart predators, molting is even done alot of times during daylight.Sheer numbers void any need whatsoever to worry about predators.Compared to fast and agile annual cicadas the periodical have no need.

Illinois happens to be the most populated cicada state, I’d rather deal with them then the people around my town any day.
