A New World Unveiled - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

Показать описание
Friends, we're coming toward the end of the liturgical year, and as is typical, the Church gives us readings of an apocalyptic nature dealing with the end times. “Apocalypse” means “unveiling,” and what’s being unveiled in our readings is the emergence of a new world—not so much in the literal, cosmic sense as in the sense of how we navigate and understand the world. Something has fallen apart; the old world has given way.

Mass Readings
Reading 1 — Dn 12:1-3
Psalm — Ps 16:5, 8, 9-10, 11
Reading 2 — Heb 10:11-14, 18
Gospel — Mk 13:24-32

Thank you, Bishop, you are a great preacher and explainer of God's word. Your insights are so out of this world. Every week I listen to your homilies when I prepare for Sunday mass and that helps to internalize the readings better. We glorify God for your gift to the world.

Every time I hear preaching about the "end times, " I think about my stepdad. He speaks like he's more afraid than he needs to be. I don't want him to be afraid of his own death. I'm the oldest child in our family. When he gets scared, it makes me feel scared. That's why I appreciate it when you preach about it, Bishop Barron.

Dear Bishop Barron,
What a simple yet profound way to explain both Daniel and the words of Jesus in today's gospel. Thank you. You are empowered and enlightened by the Spirit. Happy Birthday this Tuesday. With my prayer and gratitude - Fr. Alex (81 year old priest in active retirement.

Bishop Barron, thanks so much for explaining g the meaning of today (Sunday’s) Gospel. You and Fr. Chris Alar are two priests who have both been highly praised and criticized - dare I say condemned - because you both speak out boldly on the Truth. You both have played a huge part in keeping me in the Church after The Zeternsl Father brought me back. I MUST write my testimony and send a copy to you and Fr. Father Chris Alar, MIC. I’m so glad you have continued to teach on Sunday Gospels although you stopped the public daily Masses. We still have RETN and Fr. Alar’s Saturday “Ecplaining the Faith. Your Sunday sermons and Gr. Alar’s Explaining the Faithseries on Datirdays have resulted in conversions throughout the world, I’m sure. Thanks again and please continue.

Thank you. I’m nearly 80 years old, your homily today has been an unveiling of my mind. I understand all that has eluded me in the past. In Christ there is nothing for the future, nothing for the past, it is all for the present moment. Our new way of navigating is for us today. The old order passes away today.. something that has confused me is the term “growing the Kingdom”. The Kingdom reached its fullness in the resurrection of Christ, we are living in the fullness of the Kingdom. What we do is encourage people to join is in this new way of life. We don’t add to it, we can’t take anything away, it is of now in its fullness and eternal.

Great educator & preacher of our time, and probably the greatest after Bishop Fulton Sheen.

Wow. The relationship between the Old Testament and the New has always baffled me. Here Bishop Barron clears it up simply and reminds me that we in the 'modern' world over-think and over-complicate life, or in some cases, too many perhaps, turn away from seeking out the revelations in the Word. Jesus messages were simple and clear and thank God we have men and women who can interpret for us, or simply point the way.

Thank you Bishop Barron. I always admire your insight for the homily. Maybe you don't remember me that we met for the first time in Melbourne, Australia when you have a talk in St. Patrick Campus, Australian Catholic University (ACU) 2013, when I was a chaplain there. I think that time you introduced your book Catholicism. I always wait for your sermon to give me a pearl for my Sunday mass preaching. It's always new and refreshing, like a meal freshly cooked, not reheated from the microwave 😀. God bless you and your ministry, especially the Word on Fire.

Thanks be to God for your homily, Bishop Barron! Wonderfully illuminating and full of hope for this Catholic convert here in New Zealand. "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" What a different way of seeing the apocalyptic scripture, the 'unveiling'. God bless and protect you; much love and peace in Christ.
