I cant believe it took us like, what, 20 hours to finish that house? It was such a labor of love and I learned a lot about the game! Highly recommend

The only thing I hate about base building is light. You can steal wall lights to light up your base but it doesn't seem to work as good as the lighting in normal homes.

On an MP server, I've built a three-story safehouse surrounded by a two-story 200x200 log wall, a 50x30 garden, a public auto repair shop, a strip mall, a riverside restaurant, a bait shop, an amphitheater, a baseball field, a yard full of metal shipping containers (the best you can do in vanilla, at least) and a visitor center. 20% of the forest south of Riverside is gone thanks to me and my 100 wood axes.

If you build from scratch be careful with the first (second) floor. If you have the stairs too close to a door (or something like that) that level will register as outside.

So far this video made me realise how enormous of a task this is, to build a base from scratch in zomboid. Especially knowing, that a sudden horde can demolish a big chunk of your house if you're not careful. I found a lazier alternative for it though. In build 42 you'll have the ability to wash away dirt, graffiti or other junk on the walls, so you could renovate an abandoned house. Clean up, get some furniture and tidy up the outside, plant some bushes. And since the house is a pre-existing structure zombies can't break through your walls

I've somewhat done this before, constructing a massive garage for my many, many cars, complete with a kitchen/dance floor, upstairs bedroom, fully roofed, walled, windows and doors, and yet for the life of me I couldn't get the game to consider it an interior. Until building becomes less fiddly with determining when exteriors become interiors, I'll stick with modifying existing buildings

My friend and I have built a full massive all equipped and fully completed (paint, decorations, etc) safe house out in the middle of the forest (just across the small bridge across the river East of Westpoint at that little spike that juts out into the river). We didn't use the building menu mod, we used vanilla building and went to the map to loot the carpets and cabinets (and everything else) we wanted for each room (THAT is hard because it means we spend more time out sometimes collecting carpets from areas that have what we want). We used a bus as a safe house as we cut down all the trees and built a giant log wall and then a two story base that crossed the road. It took continued work over a couple month irl. This is also how we have 2500 play time hours O_o.
We have also built an outdoor camp style base, with each craft area an outdoor set up. Again we used an RV as a safe house, but that was a long term solution.

I can't justify a safehouse until I have a safe city and this will take months of work, in my current playthrough I have gone from March Ridge through Muldraugh to the Louisville border, back to Westpoint, up into Riverside and across to Ekron. This has taken me almost four months of in-game time so far. I intend to go through Rosewood and then back to Louisville to start securing the city. This is the first time I have used the 'More Traits' and 'RV Nomad' mod so I have a different character than normal and because I wanted a great end game she started with so many issues that getting through the first fortnight took several attempts, however she is now a fully accomplished zed-killer despite being a pacifist coward who is afraid of blood.

Yeah, building my own base from scratch is my dope! Or if I settle in a pre-existing building, it will eventually undergo a massive restructuration. :D

Making your own home comes with the annoying "feature" of rooms not becoming indoors (due to corner columns) but learning how to work around that makes building awesome!

The problem is requiring plaster that barely lasts for a few walls combined with their rarity.
Then you need to go... shall we say _shop windows_ from other houses.

I'm a fan of getting that house outside of Muldrough with it's well and expanding it slightly with a garage.
The problem is having to chop down a lot of forest just to make a long road in. And let's not forget that you can collect gravel to make your own road too!
There's a lot of joy from this.

Another fun thing you can do that I did was to build a stairway up in the middle of nowhere, then buld like 3x3 size with a fireplace in the middle and fences around.
Then deleting the stairs and bam, a watch-tower. And of course a log-support at the bottom so it looks natural. Also served as emergency shelter and escape.

5:02 — That mod looks incredible.

There’s a small pond south of Mud. I usually set up around that pond and encapsulate at least the top portion of the pond so I have some safe fishing areas. My last build had a huge farm 20-30 water catchment devices watering farm plots, a wooden road back to the town, a parking lot for vehicles. More than 100 crates for storage and several crafting sections. It was a massive three story house though I haven’t really figured out plaster and stuff yet so it was all bare wood. The number of trees I cut down…. The number of trips I took. Wheelbarrows are great and a toy wagon is the absolute best. Though that might be a hydrocraft item. And nails. Omg so many nails.

Good luck on the second channel! I’m looking forward to it

I built my own house in PZ. Usually a defensive 1 room first floor. Then 1 "unfinished" storage room, with an attached 1 nicely (and modestly) furnished living room. With a balcony for garden/water. With no mods.

This is the way I play and it’s what I WANT most from updates. Building from scratch is extremely difficult and full of inconveniences. Weight load can barely handle wood or much basic furnishings. Would really like building your own bases to be somehow made more streamlined and worth doing

All i wanted to do was put up a couple platforms for water barrels...
So far, its a five story 5x5 tower add-on with decks around each floor...
No finished walls yet, just frames and floors, and stairs.
Getting it to blend with the existing building will eventually happen....once I find enough paint...😃

I love building/ decorating games and i love zombie games. When i found Project Zomboid i was so happy to find a game where i can play both aspects in one game! The minute i touched the game i was trying to figure out how to build lol. In every playthrough i built safehouses. I only play solo but i built my houses like i have a family of 10 people :D

The fact that zombies being more attracted to player-built houses makes me avoid it like a plague.

That is kinda sweet! The way you connected to each other
