Can We Find an Earth-Like Planet?

Exoplanet research is a young science but it is growing up fast. Barely 25 years old, and we've already pinpointed over 2000 exoplanets orbiting distant stars. But can we find an Earth-like planet? Yes! But not exactly like Earth. But that may be coming soon . . . . How do we find exoplanets? Is there another Earth?

Laura is very good at taking complex ideas and mechanics and using conversational language to describe them. It not only takes a lot of knowledge, but also a great deal of confidence in that knowledge to do that. That is a very rare gift. I'm so glad that you got to talk to her (and Dr. Bean). This was a great video!

Three questions:
(1) Why aren't more video channels similarly giving attention to such interesting, positive, thought provoking topics?
(2) Why aren't more institutions (schools, say) similarly giving attention to such interesting, positive, thought provoking topics?
(3) Why don't more _people_ give similar attention to such interesting, positive, thought provoking topics?

Love this channel.

I'm very happy to see my field of research getting more attention as it deserves. One thing that they mention is that it's a young and fast growing field! Not too long ago, the amount of planet and planet candidates were less than 100. As of today, there are more than 5000 confirmed and exoplanet candidates which is drastically different. New theories, simulations, observations, and discoveries are happening almost every week. I highly encourage anyone who interested in exoplanets, exomoons, Astrobiology, or any of it's related fields to go for it. You can easily make your own sizable contribution or even make a name for yourself in this field. By the time I go to grad school, the field would have changed with new discoveries and theories. By the time I finish grad school, there will be many answers to questions I would have never even thought to ask! Go out there and discover something new!

I have my own contentions like any other person but great work on these awesome videos, please keep up the work!

You guys covering my all time favorite subject is a real treat! When we find the 'red edge' in an exoplanets spectrum (signature for photosynthesis) Earth will birth it's most historic holiday -'Were not alone Day'.

Wow Laura's intelligence and ability to communicate is an amazing gift. I would love to sit down and talk to her about this for hours. Her and Dr. Bean. Though not gonna lie kinda crushing on her.

I hope I live long enough to see space exploration discover another planet with life on it! I feel like we're getting close to discovering that now. Of course, the real problem is, once we discover a habitable planet with the potential for life, could we even interact with it? Space travel on the scale of light years seems really unlikely in the short term, but maybe we could at least discover a way to communicate instantaneously.
