Much easier following this than sorting thru the comments thread on this issue. Fixed with no system data loss (I did back up onto another computer b4 attempting) and in 10 minutes. Thank you immensely!

very nice... this is the first time i have ever come across this problem, but since i have installed ubuntu on all my systems now, i didn't want to have to reinstall ubuntu to fix the problem... i noticed you can just press "a" to "yes to all" that helps speed things up abit too... when ubuntu restarted after fixing all errors, my system rebooted no problems... thank you so much! ;)
