The hitboxes on this boss are atrocious

The toughest enemy in this boss fight is the camera.

His "1 shot grab" killed me three times when he was just one shot. It was unpredictable.

I found Radahn (without the summons) easier than this fucking boss, this is my first soulsborne game and I duel wield, I know every boss can not cater to my style but it’s so frustrating not being able to consistently hit a character because of where it’s head is.

This might have been the most diffult boss for me so far. I think the fight was very cool, but I got killed so many times by the gravity well that rises you to air and slams down. If I was missing even a bit of health I was dead for sure.

Astel teleporting behind you and insta killing you with a grab attack is probably one of the cheapest way ever to make a boss more difficult

I feel like this boss has moves that have really janky dodge timings. For example when the boss bites twice I can roll through the first but the second one is so fast it catches you immediately after the roll. When the boss slams down it's left or right arms to do the shockwaves it feels like I can roll through the impact but then the shockwave afterwards catches me the second I come out of the roll.

I love that FromSoft were just able to let go of any and all restraints with the designs for these bosses. As an artist myself, these enemy designs are like crack to me.

Use the Moonveil Katana’s special move up close and locked on to his head, every 2-3 hits should stagger it; riposte and then wait for the second it can be hit again, strike it twice with the same move and you will stagger trap it. Just beat him my first try with this little deal.

I have died 50 times here 😪 been trying for 4 hours straight
Edit: 22 minutes after this comment and 3 respecs later I finally killed it 🙌 . Went back dexterity and vigor and used Uchigatana but what let me finish it finally was switching to my bow and staying back and shooting its face over and over and dodging the rocks and beams 😀

For all of those who come here and watch this, good you did something good your willing to learn, the tactics shown and guide given is perfect. I will give you one extra helpful note, today I learnt in my mates game you can bleed this boss as long as you hit him in the head it's not a lot but it's definitely a good amount that helps. So for all you bleeders get the blood sword katana and use that have a fun time!

I stumbled upon this boss randomly at 2:00 am last night and I almost had a heart attack, what a special experience, let’s hope I can beat this punk

"I recommend using a faster weapon"
Me, looking at my battle hammer: "I hope this is fast enough..."

Edit: Fast-forward to present day, I've gone through every boss with the battle hammer +25 on a pure strength build, only levelling VIT/END/STR.

No items outside flask, no ashes of war, no spirit ashes, no magic

It was absolutely stressful fighting Malenia and Maliketh in the first playthrough, but I did it after 140 hours of play at level 125.

20 or so more hours later, I'm going into NG+3 with the same set up, but now I use Bloodhound step because Malenia's waterfowl dance makes me sad, and I throw sleep pots at everything I can.

His "oneshot grab" dealt around 70% of my life pool, and I am very beefy, 50 endurance, 38 vigor, spelldrake talisman +1 and pearldrake talisman +1 with some of the heaviest armors in the game focused on magic resistance.

That rotten breath dragon move was so helpful in this battle. That one shot move was literally the only reason why I was dying.

I discovered this boss on my own without seeing any spoilers, was an amazing feeling. I'm absolutely loving this game.

I think you’re right about the insta-kill. I’m at level 90 with 40 vigor and he killed me at max health. I used your tips and managed to beat him after I got my timing on dodging his attacks worked out.

A teleport flying grab is quite cheesy. Fromsoft really laying on the cheese extra thick in elden ring. His tail reaches across the entire arena and hits twice so you dodge the first bit and eat the second. Bosses hover for 10 seconds in the air, every boss has flight and half have teleports.

I actually found this boss one of the more manageable ones with Colossal swords due to how much endlag there is on those magic swipes. If you manage a dodge roll past it, you can get 2 full power stances in on the head with Colossal swords without any real risk. And that's like 1500 damage for me.

Meanwhile, half the bosses in this game have infinite poise and can dodge roll halfway across the room on frame one of getting up. Those are the one where I'm REALLY regretting going Strength.

Not liking this boss fight, but I'm hopeful with your guide I can do this, cheers
