Old school soprano Luisa Tetrazzini sings with Enrico Caruso record - 1932 (pitch corrected)

It only occurred to me today that this clip—which we've all seen and heard before—has almost always been presented with the pitch about a half tone too high. It does make a difference; the voice is slightly darker overall and less shrill seeming. Enjoy!

Enrico Caruso singing M'appari tutt'amor

.....................................

This channel is primarily about vocal emission—aural examples of basically correct singing, correct impostazione—chiaroscuro, vowel clarity, firm and centered pitch, correct vibrato action, absence of throatiness or thickness, sounds free from constriction and from the acoustic noise that accompanies it—with occasional video examples that demonstrate what the body, face, mouth, jaw, and tongue look like when used with correct impostazione—the vocal emission of the one and only Italian school.

Tetrazzini's laugh alone can beat all modern opera singing

In case anyone can’t catch what she says at the end.

“Hahaha thank you Mr. Clarke, hahahahaha Ha Ha This is the music that I and Caruso sang many many years ago. About 20 or 30 years. YESSS! Lovely, Lovely 😘”

My god, i am in tears again. I have been watching this precious clipping as I learn how to singing. Each time I learn something new. I also feel sad that at the end of her life, she was not living in a situation she deserved. She gave all her life to opera and audiences. She had very little left after been cheated by that young swindler. At the end, she even lost her pearls in the hospital. But she will always live in our heart! She was a true artist with a warm heart and incredible talent. ❤️❤️❤️

Hearing this again puts the tears in me eyes. She sang so often with 'Rico and they were so close in age. They both liked to party, at least until Dorothy (cough, cough) Benjamin came along. Luisa was one of those truly golden home-country girls that loved and was greatly loved in return!

Beautiful to see and hear this. She was 61 when this was filmed, hadn't released recordings since 1920 and had more or less retired from concert performance. She would go on to teach and died in 1940.

What a beautiful performance from a true coloratura soprano with a proper Bel Canto technique. Singers like Tetrazzini just don't exist anymore

She was up in years when this was recorded and she could still bring back her glorious voice to sing with Caruso.

Che grande artista, all’epoca aveva 61 anni e una carriera strepitosa alle spalle, eppure senza alcun problema canta da seduta il finale della romanza con Caruso. Mia nonna l’ascoltó in teatro e mi disse che era eccezionale!!!

One of the immortal singers. It is a crime that, apart from this clip, no electrical recording of her voice exists!

A wonderful and precious clip: as far as I know it’s the only film of Tetrazzini singing and the only time her voice was captured by the microphone, rather than the acoustic recording horn. A great pity she wasn’t invited back to the Gramophone Co’s studios when the electrical process was first introduced. But we must be grateful for all the acoustic sides we have (and the two electrical “recreations”). Thanks for adjusting the pitch - it gives the whole thing a different perspective
