The murder jacket is my favourite outfit of Ricks. Symbolic of Rick deciding to own the savage, primal side of him in order to keep his family safe. Rick always had it in him, but the jacket represents him outwardly embracing it.

It was a recurring thing in TWD that whenever Rick killed someone he tended to take on aspects of their personality. When he killed Shane, he became more commanding and only cared about his own people. When he killed the claimers, he took something of theirs (a jacket) and then he laid claim to their lives. He also stopped LOOKING like a sheriff. He even stopped carrying his revolver for a time. In Terminus he wasn’t referred to as “the sheriff” or “the policeman” or even “the cowboy” but as “the ring leader” he has taken on the aspect of the ring leader of the Claimers’ leader that he even took on his role and he got it by literally biting off the guy’s flesh.
