Historically accurate is a stretch. The creatures in the movie are all inspired by real ones and not total fantasy, but are resized and stylised considerably. Also, clearly the movie was meant to be in the Triassic but changed half way through.

hey ive just come up with a new theory about how Ankylosaurs got its tail club. I just noticed my dad's dog also has a lump on the end of his tail. He wags his tail so hard hes constantly whipping his tail into things. So my theory is, its not for defence or offense, its purely because they were so happy and they were wagging their tails a lot & just so happened to keep hitting things.

The dinosaurs/reptiles that they are trying to attribute those ones too look nothing like the species they are meant to depict. I think its safe to say no particular species was used when designing them and the writers just wanted to introduce more crazy monster type designs.

I wish the Dakotaraptor was the threat besides Trex, it was a Giant raptor huger then the ones in Jurassic park. And this is the crazy part the animal lived at the same time of the Trex! So historically it makes since.

Would it matter if the dinosaurs were real or not? The point is, we have only discovered around a third of all the dinosaurs that existed. Maybe something like it did exist? It was a brilliant movie nonetheless.
