Apple Gave us a DIFFICULT CHOICE!

With the release of Apple's latest M1 computers and their new M1 equipped iPad Pros, Apple now has a large variety of products that share the same exact power, but come in a range of different form factors and even with different operating systems. Because these products are now so similar, it also makes the choice of choosing which one is right for you a more difficult process, because what benefits are you really getting from a MacBook Air or an iPad Pro when they share the same processor, memory, and storage options.

Don’t buy none of the M1 products until June 7th. WWDC is rumored to premiere the completely redesigned next-gen Macbook Pros (14 and 16 inch) and reveal the PRO apps for iPad (possibly changes to the iPad OS). Your decision could change based on what will be shown. It’s just a month and you get to avoid the buyers remorse of galactic proportions :)

I’m thinking about going with an iMac for home use and the iPad for on the go.

You can take the I-Pad with you, draw on it, and when yuo are home you can side car apps like Photoshop, Illustrator and draw or edit right on to the I-Pads. That makes the I-Pad more versatile. I ordered the 12.9 with 1TB and Cellular and still plan to get the larger I-Mac.

It’s not really a hard decision. Do you want a pc/laptop/tablet. They all do completely different things/ used for different things. I disagree it’s making anything difficult, it just makes it easier actually, because now specs don’t really matter, just what form factor you want.

I have the last regular iPad that didn’t have support for any Apple Pencil. I have a mid 2014 15’’ MacBook Pro Retina that’s fairly decent specced. I have a high end gaming desktop PC. In addition I’ve used boring old drawing tablets for years when I try to take my art digitally. The experience isn’t amazing. So the choice was fairly simple for me - 12.9’’ M1 iPad Pro. It’s going to replace my old iPad, and also my old Mac in most usecases. The only reason for me to bring out my old Mac nowadays is Final Cut Pro. And for most of the stuff I do, Lumafusion on the iPad is going to do the job plenty fine. I can probably go completely laptop free when my new iPad arrives. The hard choice for me was whether to go with the 1TB model with 16GB of RAM or not. I ended up getting it, as I tend to stick with my Apple products for a long time. It’s an investment that hopefully will re-pay itself in adding a little more longevity to the device. But of course, only time can tell what happens and if I’ll actually be able to completely ditch my laptop in favour of the iPad. But for my use, I am pretty sure it’s going to work out fine. Even with todays iPadOS and app limitations.

Now that they all use the same chip the iMac seems redundant. Why not just buy a laptop + an external monitor? There is nothing particularly unique about the imax anymore

We have the latest maxed out intel model MacBook Pros & iMac and the 2018/2020 iPad Pros. These models are still blazing fast and operate like they’re brand new, therefore we will wait for the M2 or later models.

I have decided to pre-order the iPad Pro12.9 and I have the M1 MBP. I want to modify my workflow and have a better screen for certain things. I will however not get the magic keyboard stuff and will reuse my pen that I had since 2018. The news, in Canada at least, is not good. Delivery dates of June 9 - June 23 (after WWDC) which is frustrating because their website in Canada did not allow to order until 9:18 EDT (Toronto time). I do, however, expect this delivery date to be pushed further back, say until August when their new M1X gear is being shipped as well.
