An Introduction to Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry for the Clinical Laboratory

Speaker Biography:
Adam J. McShane started his healthcare career as a first responder receiving national registration as a paramedic. He earned a BS in chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. After graduation, he attended the University of Connecticut, where he obtained a PhD in biological chemistry. Adam completed a clinical biochemistry fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. He then joined the staff at Cleveland Clinic, and currently serves as the medical director of the automated chemistry laboratory and the toxicology and proteomic specialties in the special chemistry laboratory. Adam is also the associate director of the clinical biochemistry fellowship program at Cleveland Clinic, an assistant professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western University, and an adjunct professor at Cleveland State University. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, an associate fellow of the AACC Academy, and an officer for the Northeast Ohio local section of AACC.

Webinar Abstract:
The capabilities of liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry make the technology a very attractive tool in clinical laboratory settings. However, not all laboratorians have a basic understanding of clinical mass spectrometry. In this presentation, the fundamentals of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry will be briefly discussed. Further, a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry assay validation will be reviewed.
